im having a problem with my grinder. it is a kmg and i have the adam michael tool rest on it.the problem is the belt seems to oscillate ( moves side to side) and its making a bu bump bu bump bu bump sound and i can visually see the bump at where the belt is connected. I tried different belts but it seems to still be there. this started happening recently. The only changes I made was reversing the spring at the tension contrller area ( about 3 months ago) and added the adam michael tool rest( about 2 months ago). everything was working fine until recently. I ran the main wheel without a belt and there was no obvious deviation in its spinning so the problem must be around the tension wheel. any suggeations--ive tried 5 different belts and am at a loss. thanks marekz

Sometimes it's just a bad batch of belts. Were all of the belts you're using now bought at the same time? Are they all the same brand? Has it been more humid lately? belts exposed to high humidity can get squirly too...

maybe the pillow block bearing(s) are going out? I've had to replace mine in the past.

I had the same problem with a half dozen 50 grit belts! I thought my KMG was out of wack until I tried a different brand and it ran perfect. Only other time I had major trouble is when I completely took it apart to paint I had it running like crap. Next time I will tape parts off and paint.

yes these are all from the samse batch and they were all 50 grit- ill try some other ones as soon as they come in--thanks mark

I have one 100 grit belt that doest just that do i use it for what ever. It noisy and moves over 1/2 an inch from side to side .

I bet dollars to doughnuts it is the belts. You bought a first class machine. Buy first class belts. You wouldn't run Walmart tires on your BMW.

I bought 3 dozen of 120 and 220 from Hog Abrasives at the Vegas Show. Absolute worst joint I have ever seen , they thump just going around , once you put steel to the platen , it sounds more like a smack. My bud had go luck with their 80 grit belts thought.

I will use these for slack belt on handles only.
