I haven't had a lot of expendable income to spend on hobbies for the past year, so I was excited to have a little extra cash in my pocket when I recently got a new job. I had been building a list of Things To Buy and at the top was a CPM-D2 Para. It arrived yesterday!
Fit-and-finish: Excellent, better than any knife I currently own. This knife is a bargain, especially considering the high-tech materials that went into it. There is some residual red residue markings left from the laser on top of the locking liner side (same type of markings were left on my BG-42 Military jimping). Doesn't effect usability. Everything else is flawless.
Lock: It locks up very tight with no horizontal or vertical play. I'll have to get used to the compression lock, but I love its simplicity and ease-of-use. Lot of room left for wear. Locks and unlocks smoothly.
Handle: The G-10 is textured like 600 grit sandpaper and is very grippy. Handle is ergonomic in a variety of positions... feels like an extension of my hand (even better than my Military!). A note about the handle color: this is my first foliage green knife and pictures on the internet don't really capture the color very well. It changes tone depending on the background... in my hand it's sort of a muted/faded green-grayish color. I like it a lot - it's a nice change for the standard tactical black.
Blade: The thick, flat ground blade of particle metallurgy tool steel just begs to be used hard. Shaving sharp, good grind lines, sharp tip.
So what's the problem?
I don't think I can force myself to use this knife!
I'm not a 'collector' in the since of buying knives to hide them away in a safe or a glass case to look at. I'm not yet rich enough to buy items for the express purpose of stashing them away - I use them out of necessity. This knife was designed to be used, and used hard... but it's just too nice I think.
Excellent job Sal & company!
