problem with my leather sheaths

I did the vinegroon method with my students.. Very simple. Stick a pad of steel wool in a jar of vinegar. Leave it a week. Dip your sheaths. Let them sit 15 minutes until it goes black. Neutralize in baking soda and water for a few minutes. No clean up, no mess, no getting on other stuff. Pure black all the way through.

i use tandy's dye or fiebings oil black dye. I have a small tupperware container to dip it in. i've never had an issue daubbing the smoke black hig lite on leather .... hmmm am I the only one who has never had an issue with black?

95% of the time i just oil with neatsfoot and that's that!
