Problem with Simonich SRT

Lynn, here is the url http://www.simonichknives.com
I'm a poor example for this thread as I have a bunch of unused knives, but since finding Blade Forums this is changing. Busting out my Trailmaster for a hacking/stabbing session was funnner than I had ever imagined. Better go for it.

"made to be used" I always find that statement amusing.
I think in reality the statement should be "made to be sold" That part was met. Now you define the proper use of the knife.

It sounds to me like this knife is a definite user.

I can't see me buying a knife that I would never use, or a gun that I would never shoot!

Unless, of course it was a fancy art knife with gold and jewels and ........

But then I couldn't afford it. Who knows, maybe I'll even bring myself to cut something with my Madpoet someday. I know Mel would want it that way.

Well Bob, I think you have your answer, can you feel the chops in it yet?

Is it The knife used in the review, or is it like the one used? Huge difference. If it's like the one in the article, buy a couple of issues and enjoy the knife as a cutter. If it's the one used in the article, get a letter from the publisher saying so, and think very carefully about that first cut.

i now about your delema, use it. it's even worse when your like me and you make a knife for using, and you spend 4 hours putting a hand rubbed finish on it, and another 6 finishing the bolsters and handles. than chop up some tree with it. you'll never really like the knife unless you use it, tryst me rob's knives will last. i have mine heat treated by him, and you can beat the crap out of them, they don't chip or bend.

Hal,

It is the knife used in the review. I am going to use it anyway. Damn my reservations, full speed ahead. The knife is art, but it’s going to art in motion.

Now all I need is a shining moment, a signal event, to start it’s working life. Or a two by four. Yah, that would be good as well.

Pleconin,
Sounds like you made up your mind. Actually, it sounds like you made your mind up before you posted .I faced the same situation and decide to wait to use my knife. I still get a lot of enjoyment out of mine, but it's a different kind of enjoyment. I understand collectors and a lot of the pleasure of collecting is the actual collecting itself. All of my knives are users, some are used for reasons other than cutting. This is one of those real toughies, cause Rob is still a relative newcomer and his stuff is going to go up in value, and you own a unique piece of his work. Still, the value to you could be to have the knife as a user. Bottom line is you made the right choice because it's your choice, not someone elses. It only has whatever value you assign to it. I personally would use it, but give long hard thought to doing so. It sounds like you already did just that. Enjoy it!
