I love your boxesNot directly on-topic, but if you have a knife damaged in shipping, it's not their fault.
Ron, That is flat out illegal for the lower types at the Post Office to just decide what they want to handle. You could Sue them. I went though some of the same crap after 9-11 here in my town. I went over the dips at the counter to their boss the Post Master. One counter girl refused to ship a knife to Germany .. I explained that there isnt a tiny person in the box with the knife to cause any trouble. ——So I went to the Post Master..He was polite and said, let’s look?—————— He had a Manual about 6” thick. He couldn’t find any code , Law etc that said that knives couldn’t be shipped to Germany or anywhere else by the USPS..Go over their heads, not hard to do with most of them...My post office has made it very clear to me, they do not want to ship knives. Everything is fine until the package fails, if they see a knife, I will not see it.

One of the girls at the post office overheard my discussion about this with her superior and tryed to tell me when I was shipping other stuff to not get in her line when shipping knives ..I told her that she works for me. Not the other way around and will do her job of I will make it my life mission to get her demoted and possibly fired and she is to greet me with a smile!!I second this. I had to go thru the same thing when I was using USPS to ship pails of quench oil. The local postmaster does not have the authority to create new rules.
Karl, where I worked at two different gun shops here in S Cal, when we would ship a rifle UPS .. sometimes they would run it over with a forklift and we would make a claim. Because the receiving gun store would send us back pics etc and the Rifle.... UPS would stop by and tell us that the damage was our fault , because it wasn’t packed properlyNot directly on-topic, but if you have a knife damaged in shipping, it's not their fault.
The USPS office in my town is known for stealing packages regularly. They open boxes and letters, check what's inside, then decide if they want it or not.
Just last month my parents wanted to send me and my brother cards in the mail for Halloween (we're both away at school and did not get to come home that month). They sent us both $5 in the letter as well, and what do ya know both envelopes "got stuck in the sorting machine" and were sent back to my parents. The best part is that the envelopes were obviously opened by hand, the cards were intact with no damage BUT the $5 were missing from both. Yeah, $5 is $5, but still sad that you cant even send a card to a family member.
My brother collects Oakley sunglasses and has had his order "lost in the sorting machine" twice at that same post office. thankfully he was about to have the retailer send him another pair each time, but someone much be enjoying their free pairs of $200-$300 sunglasses...
I avoid USPS as much as possible.
The local Post Office doesn't answer the phone, so calling the local postmaster is out.
Signature confirmation is a great idea.
How would one go about contacting the Postal Inspector?
P. Brewster, thanks for the contact information about the USPS Consumer affairs.
I do the same. No point in buying insurance if they're not going to pay.I never insure,
I use signature confirmation. That’s my insurance
Well USPS struck again, I got a package in the mail on Friday that was empty. I bought a leather stamp off of eBay for my sheaths and the envelope it came in had a small slit in the bottom back corner were someone had removed the stamp and sent the envelope on its way to my house. I'm going to talk to the post office tomorrow and then probably the police.View attachment 1084979
