I just finished buffing out a filet knife that I used some "bulk phenolic
sheet" from Sheffield's in black paper base, and noticed that even the white rouge I use all
the time for handles was leaving scratches.

a closer look showed that
the corners at the butt end were discolored a light tan color. light
sanding removed this, so I assume it was from heat. I dont use micarta
much, but I looked at a kitchen knife I did a while back with real
Westinghouse micarta, and no signs of scratches or discoloration.

Anybody else had these type of problems with either brand?

I guess I'll try hand rubbing to salvage the slabs, and let yall know how it
turns out. Good thing the blade is a giveaway and not a contract job.

basically its the paper thats at fault, doesnt like heat.....been there..i know.. best suggestion i have is always use linen or canvas base and youll never have the problem again.....the paper base chips too. not that great of stuff....
