Problems with my GB2 chipping

I keep ending up with chips in my GB2. I have not used it hard at all. Its sharpened to a 30Deg inclusive and been stropped with diamond paste using paint stir stick, leather belt and power strop. I have had 2 benchmade blades with M4 and never had it chip. Anyone else having the same problem or can you think of what I am doing wrong?

That sucks, whatcha cuttin'?

Also, how do you know its 15dps?

Any pics?

Just received mine so it would be interesting to know what you did cut with it when it was chipping! Just loving mine initially but haven't done any hard cutting yet!

Many factory knives that I've received have microchipping until they are sharpened several times. The power sharpening done at the factory can overheat the steel in the edge, causing the microchipping. I have several Spyderco offerings in M4 and haven't had to deal with chipping, even with the bevels set at 8-10 degrees per side with a 15 degree microbevel. I'd say give it several sharpenings before making judgement on it. If it continues to chip then there is something wrong with it and you should have Spyderco look at it.

I also would love to know what caused the chipping. About the heaviest cutting I have did up to that point was open a candy box. What gunmike1 said sounds most likely. I bought a BM 940-1501 and it also had a few chipping issues though not as bad but then again I don't carry it as often. I just never have seen M4 chip. The other night I did some heavy carving on a fir 2x4 and it did great. It feels harder that BM M4 on the stone but I think that's a good thing.
I used a DMT diamond plate freehand to profile the edge and a Sharpmaker with a sharpie for the final bevel.

Mine is sharpened 30-degrees as well (with a 40-deg microbevel though), but I haven't encountered this problem. I set the bevel with a DMT plate as well.
Any photos?

Perhaps asking in the Spyderco sub-forum will net more response (or maybe a mod can move it).
