Sal, I live in NC were it is illegal to carry a concealed fixed bladed knife. Any thoughts to designing a kerambit style knive with a folding blade?

Sounds interesting... I'm into kerambits myself.
Maybe a production version of the Brad Duncan/Liong Mah folding Eroder... That'd be nice!

Steve Ryan has a folding Kerambit design as well. How about a Spyderco/Ryan Collaboration? What do you guys think?

I think that the upcoming mini-Gunting, the Tusok, is supposed to be sort of a folding kerambit.

Check out the MOD Ladyhawk. It functions much like a folding Kerambit. No hole though. I have one and I love it. Especially nice for IWB carry in athletic shorts or running pants.

Looking for something along the line of a classic kerambit with a hole at the top for my index finger. Was thinking that it could be designed with a Spyder hole on the blade that I could open with one of my other fingers.

Something like this?:

<img src="http://www.1sks.com/images/gerber/g-cham1.jpg">

It's made by Gerber. Doesn't have the opening hole, but it's got the finger hole. Not exactly a classic kerambit style blade though. The ones I handled were very hard to open one handed: quite awkward.

Carlos was right on! The Mini Gunting: the TUSOK will be a type of Kerambit...
Its going to be small, light n fast..
Its got a Spydie hole..its got a ramp..and it spins right into reverse grip where its going to at its up close and personal best..

I'll work on a custom version that actually has an indexing hole as in a regular Kerambit...

be safe!

Bram,
Any idea when the TUSOK will be availible? Any pictures or diagrams in the meantime?

Yep... That's the Brad Duncan/Liong Mah folding Eroder I mentioned previously. Very nice indeed.

A production version of this with an opening hole and a compression lock would be very very slick.

When answering questions about the Perrin S.P.O.T. SAL mentioned on this forum that Spyderco had a concept model of a folding version. I haven't seen the model but if it is related to the fixed blade version it might be what you guys are asking for. He mentions it on the second page of the topic Proto Photo - Glesser/Perrin NK.

Thanks, Glenn. I didn't remember reading about a folding version of the S.P.O.T. (which I've been waiting for BTW). Hope Sal decides to go with it.

In my wild fantasies I hand Spyderco many designs..
With group of Spec Ops asking what about a Spyderco Kerambit..got me thinking..Then last year while teaching with Steve Tarani, a great disciple and teacher of Kerambits.. and talking with Lance..I sketched out a few Gunt-erambits..
its taken a bit but they look pretty cool..
No I don't think it'll ever get made except as a custom for me personally..BUT..it does have a ramp..to use closed as impact and trapping,..so it does KinOp open...it has of course a big base Kerambit hole..and a compression lock..and of course the ramp has a Spydie hole..and a very wide but short 2.5 inch blade with an appleseed tip...

it was with that in mind that I did do the mini Gunting, the TUSOK as a type of resonable Kerambit...

By the way the Brad Duncan /Liong Mah is a very cool knife.. I've played with it..

be safe..
