Good Day,

I am looking for a product, to place between the tang and handle scales of a knife...

That will seal out water, but not permanently bond the handles to the tang.

The handles scales will be attached with bolts, and the customer may want to remove the handles later.

I remember Kevin Wilkins was using some sort of thread-locker type of product?

Thanks,
Marion

If I wanted to do that I'd use 100% clear silicone caulk available at any hardware or home improvement store.

Just a thought, Josh

Silicone will corrode steel. in it's place use ureathane caulk, or wax. Clear Coat Paint would do it as well.

In many silicone caulks and adhesives, the polymerization reaction ("setting up") produces acetic acid.

That is silicone caulk ( sealant). Silicone grease, or silicone compound ( like heat sink compound) should work.

If it was me, I would use something like rubber cement. It would not be hard to remove the scales, and would be less problematic than some of the other choices. Another good sealant, but somewhat flexible substance is E-6000.
