I don’t own any framelock flippers
Ah, the "another" part threw me off. Well, if you want something under 5 ounces, a good option is the Viper Fortis. The full TI version is around 4.5 ounces and the CF version comes in at under 4, so it's very svelt. 3.5" blade, slicey yet beefy, M390 steel, all version come in under $200. A great choice.
Sidebars:
1. How’s the F&F on the Fortis? I love Vox designs, but haven’t picked any up, yet. If they feel as well put together as a 0562, I’d get the ball rolling on that. I’ve seen enough of your replies here to trust your judgement.
2. You’re from the Portland area, iirc? Tualatin neighbor? Are you hitting Blade West in October? May need to grab coffee or shake hands at some point.
I heard some reports of the F&F being hit and miss on the first runs of the Fortis. I owned two and didn't have any major issues. Though I did tinker with both of mine to get the lockbar pressure and detent strength where I wanted it. But grinds, centering, lockup, action were great on both of them. It sounds like the ones that are coming off now are more consistently dialed in as well. I mean to pick up another one at some point. I love the Vox designs and I definitely like this one best out of his Viper collaborations so far.
And yep, I'm in PDX and will definitely be hitting up Blade West, as will a number of other BF members in the area. I'm hoping we can eventually get a thread going on here about some kind of meet up for folks in the area. Should be a blast.
I handled 3 models of the Fortis at my local knife store (2 cf and one full ti), all three of them had a weak detent that caused a not great flipping action unless you would use very careful flipping technique or wrist. The weak detent meant the blade would usually shoot out before enough pressure was built on the flipper causing the blade to kind of plop out and stop about 3/4 of the way open.
My good friend has a cf version of the fortis with the same issue.

Thank you, and thanks toLapedog for the Fortis notes. My hesitation with Vox stuff has always come down to end quality. Boker and Viper have seemed to be hit and miss, though I don’t have any first hand experience to speak of with those brands.
The Giant Mouse stuff has me very excited.
Regarding a BF meet up at some point: that would be awesome.
The shots of the GM5 coming sometime later this summer definitely make it look to be the best of the Giant Mouse line so far. Very excited for that one.
