I received the blade from Roemer1 last week. It's been

90-100 degree temperatures this past week + a recent unit change at work have kept me indoors. Planning on putting some work in this weekend and then getting it shipped off early next week. (Jonny1280's next in the next up right?) On a side note the blade came moderately dull. It's got a fine working edge but definitely won't be shaving any hair. I'm in the process of learning to hand sharpen but still consider myself pretty green. It looks like it just needs a quick touch up. I don't have a strop (I know... I NEED to get one), so would running it across a Spyderco UF ceramic bench stone be adequate? I also have a sharp-maker with stock stones but was worried that the Fiddleback edge geometry will get messed up by the Sharpmaker angles. Thoughts/suggestions?

My first thought Grizz is to send it to the forge so that your testing is with a fresh edge from the source.

I think you should do your best with what you have. That's kind of the point. Test it. Say it sucks at being sharpened with a Spyderco Bench stone. Say it it amazing when sharpened with a spyderco bench stone. Please don't send it back, just sharpen it and see how the chips fall. Note how you are a beginner, moderate, experienced, expert, guru or whatever on the sharpener and go from there. Just be truthful and explain what you did. This is a proven design, so IMO there is no need to baseline. Just sharpen and go.

BTW, PM inbound.

Grizz, I'm sure you have a leather belt or two. Don't let the pre-made strop hype fool you. You can get compound at Lowes/HD and put it on a piece of cardboard.

If Johnny1280 is next I wouldn't worry about sharpening, the guy can sharpen a knife! He'll get that baby hair popping sharp again.

You're too kind...
I'm looking forward to test out this production Hiking Buddy!
Just shoot me a PM when you're ready to ship Grizz.

I just got the HB in the mail today.
I'll give it a good workout this weekend and pass it on to Crewbot next week.

My review can be seen here.

The knife was shipped out to Crewbot w/ Priority Mail and tracking today.
Thanks for letting me be a part of this pass around!
