What is a good small production knife for fruit. I thought about the Cold Steel Master Hunter or SRK. It has to be small, not too expensive and fixed blade.

small....srk is a 6" blade? do you mean 6" blade as top end of small or.....?

Forschner(sp?) or opinel pairing knives. If you want something fancy then maybe an izula or izula 2. I like the izula 2 with a stripped blade as I cut apples a quarter at a time rather then halved and halved again. The 2 1/2 inch blade is about perfect for that.

...or one could get a Melon Sampler...that is what they were designed for....

...or if one wanted to get fancy, one of those silver or MOP fruit knives! Classy!

Another vote for the Victorinox paring knife. They come in plain edge or serrated. The one I use is a plain edge.

You don't need a hunting or survival knife for cutting fruit. Another one of my best fruit cutters is a simple (folding) Swiss Army knife. In general with most fruit, the thinner the blade the better, unless maybe we're talking coconuts or something.

Standard Vic folders such as the tinker or recruit are awesome for food / fruit and would be my recommendation if he could live with a folder.

I got a Real Steel Pointman a little while ago. Great little knife!! Their 14C28N heat treat is really nice! Reminds me of well done Aeb L. Very user friendly. Will easily tackle the difficult task of fruit processing. That one is a 3.5 inch blade.

They also have 2 great, slightly larger fixed blades with the same steel. One is 4.25 inch blade and the other is 4.5. The Forager and the Bushcraft plus(the one with the full flat grind). I just ordered the Bushcraft Plus as an extra knife to keep in my pack, truck, fishing gear, etc.

The larger ones are little more, but priced well. I believe the larger ones are both .180" stock, but RS knives have good blade geometry.

Not an srk for sure, that's a tough combat knife but not my first choice for cutting fruits. If you want to stick with Cold steel check out there lites they have good rust resistance and are east to maintain. A stainless mora would be great as well.

Smatchet.

Joking aside, look at some of the Opinels. Nice, thin blades. If you go for carbon you'll get a nice patina when cutting fruit.
