Production Knife Plans

I would bet it's probably 3/16" or maybe 5/32" would be the thinnest.

We just received the mock up for the Duke. I think this is going to be my personal favorite of the production knives thus far. But I'm partial to the Duke anyway. It'll be 5/32", S35VN, w/ the same handle options as before - black or natural canvas micarta. We've also incorporated a hidden lanyard hole in the base of the tang.

Not far behind the Duke are the bushboot and kephart, both in 1/8" IIRC.

I'm intrigued by the choice of 5/32" for the production model. I've well-used a Duke in 3/16" (my first fiddleback, and I think still my favorite pattern), and that seems absolutely perfect for how I use the thing. Now I'm trying to imagine how different its role would be with a thinner blade...might have to try one... :-)

I'm stoked to hear the Duke is going to be in 5/32. Even though I've never had the pleasure of handling one it's always been one of my favorite Fiddlebacks. 3/16 is just too much weight and steel for me and I have yet to break a blade at 5/32 even with repeated hard hard use. A Kephart at 1/8 also sounds fantastic and is something I will most definitely be keeping my eyes on!

 5/32" sounds great! How about a custom handle in dark blue burlap with a black bolster. The waters will be Churning! :D

All these new mid techs look awesome. Great choice of models. Thanks for the previews Vance.

The prototypes are looking good gents. What are your thoughts on extending the tang slightly longer than the scales for a nut cracker or a window breaker?

Oh man, I am so digging this!

I had Andy do that on the early model Bushfinger. He didn't care for it though. I used mine for scraping bark fibers and scraping out spoons when I burned them out.

Just a side note
The crenellations on this prototype are a bit more pronounced than the actual model we are going with as I understood it

The good thing about the mid techs is that you can take the scales off and grind off a bit at the end to get the same effect
