Production knives that you paid full MSRP for

We all so used to the fact that the purchase price of the production knife is a lot below MSRP, and sometimes I wonder if there is a reason to put a much higher price tag if knife is offered by dealers at a deep discount right from the pre-order stage of sales.

Take highly anticipated Spyderco Military for example.
MSRP: $349
Pre-order price: less than $200
You save: $150+ !!! X-mas came early (knife isn't even out yet)

I understand the discount offered by online dealers, because they have less operational expenses than local stores, but still... not that much. To me MSRP means pretty much nothing. I think it is just an advertising trick and a way to justify a future markup, if knife is a limited production or sold out everywhere else.

Well anyways, just want to see if anybody paid a full MSRP for a knife that was still in production. I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of CRK, Striders and such, but I more interested in Spydercos, Benchmades, Kershaws etc.

Country Knives in PA carries a lot of discontinued items, I've paid MSRP for a few hard to find models. Don't have them anymore, and lost an arm and a leg on them, but, it was my fault.

At least you have a knife store you can go to. B&M knife stores here have gone the way of the Dodo Bird.

Bought a mini grip for $100 at the mall cutlery/cigar shop.

Paid MSRP for a couple small Sebe's, as well as Strider SnG, and PT. Not much choice with these 2 brands...the only way to go cheaper is used...my prefered way to go....

A NOS Spyderco TI ATR PE, long after it was gone, gone , gone. At MSRP, I felt fortunate just to find one of those NIB. Typically you have to be in the forums at just the right time.

There are a few stores around that will not sell for less than MSRP. They are gold mines for disco'ed products, often with collectors numbers if you like that kind of thing.

The one that I bought mine from closed up and went out of business this year after being in business longer than the 22 years I've lived in Raleigh.

He was a great guy, knew his stuff, and had an amazing selection, it just cost a bunch. Still, I miss Beck's.

BTW, anybody recall him designing what became a fairly notorious knife? He also had a good stock of Randalls in the shop, as well as other nice customs. In addition he had a way of getting 1st editions. I recall seeind a first run of a strider/Buck collaberation in BG42 there that I never saw any where else.

He knew what people liked. Unfortunately he had a store in a suburb, a very expensive one that had to cost him a huge monthly rent. It's too bad, really. I still have a bunch of knives of his with his collectors number on the blade from his going out of business sale.

Even as a dealer, I've bought Griptilians at MSRP only because benchmade stopped selling to distributors and online shops when I started my business. I like griptilians and a local B&M shop I've gone to since I was a kid stocks them. Even at $100 MSRP for a 551 and 550 seems like a good deal when you consider what else is out there.

My 552 Ritter grip that I bought straight from Aeromedix was the full price, around $115 before the recent markup to $118. That one I had to sell during a rough patch and luckily I was able to snag one here for $75 :) It's been my EDC since and actually stopped my constant craving for more knives

The only other knife I've ever bought at full price was a CRK Umnumzaan straight from the source. It was one of those "I want it now" moments and they were still going for almost new prices used anyways, so why not pay $5 extra for a brand new one? :o

As for other knives, forget it, I get those for dealer cost and tax myself for it :D

Bought a NIB Spyderco Lil' Temp at the 2002-2003 MSRP price from an old army/navy store recently. Figured I was probably getting a good deal since I would pay at least MSPR, if not more, to find a NIB one online. Would never pay MSRP for a normal, in-production model.

I did pay full MSRP for an Extrema Ratio KL Kukuri. Times were good, and I literally couldn't find it anywhere else in stock or for sale.
