Production knives???

Question about production knives:
Are production knives "hand" ground blades?
Or machine made?

Just curious, is someone really standing at a grinder and grinding or is there automation that can do that?

Lots of hand ground blades being made.

There are a lot of cnc blades being made too. I usually think of "production" knives as being made quickly with the aid of a computer and automated milling equipment. I guess it just depends on one's definition of "production." A lot of guys produce a lot of knives by hand and those could be considered "production" knives too.

In the age of automation any thing mass produced would be manufactured the least expensive way to maximize profits. The lower end knives, especially ones made offshore, are probably consumed in their use so there is no benefit of skilled labor like there was years ago when quality knives were made here in the states. Not to say there aren't today.
