Production Recluse review

Lots of makers stop taking orders in the interest of their business and their sanity. I don't think you're going to suffer a significant lack of respect in the knife community by doing what's best for you and at the same time, still offering your great work in batches on a first come/first served basis here on the forums.

Heck, I'd rather have the instant satisfaction of purchasing one of your knives here than waiting on a custom order.

Furthermore, at the risk of sounding too fanboyish, I think Bark River did a fantastic job with their rendition of the Recluse. Offered with many handle material choices, one still has the opportunity to "customize" their pick in this regard.

You've got my support for what it's worth (and my money at some point in the future). Best to you.

Professor.

I've been lurking here for over a month now and based upon what I've seen from the pictures and from what I've learned from the reviews, I could no longer control myself and took the plunge and purchased a production Recluse from KSF which arrived yesterday. I could not happier with this knife. I do wish that it could have been Fiddleback custom, but I took what I could get when the opportunity presented itself. Now, when the opportunity presents itself to purchase a custom, i.e., a particular knife is available and so is the money, I will jump all over it. Do I wish that knives became available more often? Sure.... But not at the expense of limiting the selection or the uniqueness of any particular knife. Andy, continue to do what you do. I wholely concur with Professor and will will gladly wait in line.

I've got my eye out for a Ladyfinger, a Bushcrafter, a Hunter, a Bushfinger, a Snubnose, a Hikingbuddy........you get the picture.

Hey, I've been drooling over the photos, and reviews and it gets to me sometimes. I want a Hunter model with a Mist Mod so bad I can't stand it. I had been saving money up to get a 'chete and a Hunter. It got stolen, and now I got another deal going (thanks brother). But here's the skinny:

I'LL WAIT UNTIL THE FIDDLEBACK I WANT BECOMES AVAILABLE.

I don't complain to Andy to hurry up and make this or why not that. You want a Fiddleback Forge Knife, this is the way it goes. When Andy makes the Hunter that will be mine, he'll let me know. It usually is called, "Check out this new batch". Located in the Fiddleback forums, I check in daily. What I am buying is not a 10" long piece of sharpened metal and some handle material. I can buy that in a dozen places.

What I am buying is an American Made, hand made, physical embodiment of an idea that one man had, and made a reality through crafting. I can buy knives anywhere, I can only get a Fiddleback from Andy.

I make custom leather sheaths. I have an idea, I make it a reality. I have kids, and a dayjob, and a second job, and a mortgage, and a yard that needs to be mowed. ALL of my customers get made to order custom made sheaths. No two are alike. And they wait until I am done making them. Is my business hurting? I got 9 backlogged sheaths that I need to get out ASAP. Is that alot? No. For me? Yes.

Rock on Andy. I'll still be here long after I get my Hunter and 'chete. I'm not buying the knife, I'm buying the man and the craft.

I'll get off my soapbox now.

So, Andy, how's my Hunter coming along?

Pictures???????

The pictures I'm capable of taking aren't nearly a artsy-fartsy as those I've seen here. I really don't want to embarress myself or do a disservice to this knife with the rather boring and oftentimes out of focus shots which it seems I excel at.

However, understanding the mantra of "pics or didn't happen", I will attempt to sit down this weekend and stage a few shots.

Man they dont have to be some arty picture. Take a look of my photos and you will feel much better about your photo skills.

This weekend fell apart as did my week. Seems the only free time I've had has been while I'm at work. Trying to refinance our home and realized that there were a lot of things that needed to be done before appraisel. I will try to find time.
