professional sharpener

Richard J,
would it be possible to get some information on your belt
sharpener. I enjoy trying new methods to see if I can
improve my service for my customers.

Thank you,

Bill

bill, the belt sander i use is one i designed and used until it gave up the struggle after 16 years of use. back in 2007 a buddy and i rebuilt it and made some improvements. it is set up for flat grinding and works great for convex edges. send me an email and i'll send you some pictures. include a number to call and i'll give you a ring and save us both some typing :D

Bill,
I won't flame you for using a Tormek. It all comes back to technique. I have a colleague in the area who uses a Tormek, and his blades are incredible. I have another one who uses the same tools, and his work is less than spectacular.
Swas, I use a belt sander on generic knives with micron belts from www.econabrasives.com, as well as their surgisharp leather belt. I use stones and hand strops for higher end knives.

bill, i talked to my buddy in minnesota that has the knife store earlier this week. he just loves his paper wheels and all the other equipment they used before is now in storage. they have several buffers set up with plenty of extra grit wheels ready to go.
