First thoughts at a glance.. it's awfully pointy all around, and the blade goes from wide to narrow awfully quick. Looks ok though.

im ok with blade shape, just not sure about handle , initially i thought the design had alot of character, but starting to doubt that somewhat..........

i'd like to see the handle curve downward more....i like the blade shape though....i think a nice smooth arc from the guard to the butt curving down would look nice....ryan

What if you thinned out the blade belly a bit and smoothed out some of the sharp angles. Like this maybe?

Curt, if he does that he'll just be making a copy of a Schrade Old Timer skinning knife.
I like the pattern he has to start with. I agree the belly is a little big and the handle looks a little skinny but once it's finished it'll look better. I'd like to see it completed!

Naw! That blade has a similar upsweep to the classic Schrade (Sharpfinger, right?), but that's about it.

The one our bricklaying buddy from PA is working on seems much bigger judging from the handle. I'm guessing the handle is between 5.5" and 6" up to the beginning of the second finger choil? Speaking of handles, the handle is nothing like the Sharpfinger. I just think taking a little off here and there is going to enhance the usability and make it easier to carry. I guess it really depends on the function of the knife though. Hey, I bet it would be great at chopping pork shoulder for barbecue!!

Is there a particular task this knife is designed to fill?

Well that's my $.02 worth.

keep the change :)

cutt'en,chopp'en...............i leave that up to whoever ends up buy'en it.
i think i'll run with it and see what happens. it does have potential.

clw3 your right the handle in damn near 5 inches, i made it way to big then had to profile again and shorten.

Seems ok to me, handle appears to be that it might to somewhat small compared to the blades size, but I say go with the way it is. If the handle winds up being too small, it would make a nice display piece either way. So, you have nothing to lose.
