This sounds like it could be interesting. Blacksmith Ric Furrer is going to "reverse engineer" the Ulfberht sword made between 800 - 1000 AD.

It is the season premiere of Nova.

Well written ( researched ) and beautifully photographed show.
Kevin Cashen works the bellows and as a "striker."

You can Google Door County Forgeworks- Richard Furrer for more information about the program-process.

Great show.... Although it's painful to watch how slowly you have to forge wootz to keep it together! And I need to watch again more closely to see how he was forging those fullers... His top hammer was flat??? Anyway... an epic piece beautifully done.

Thanks for the comments on my picture... I was just having fun with the last few days I have with the type G sword (as well as preparing for an upcoming Viking re-enactment camp). It's headed out with axe and shield display combo. :-(

And a great show it was!

Although, I was kind of upset that they did not show the completed blade more at the end of the show.

...Eight hours of billowing?

Owch.

Hi Guys,

do you know if it's possible to watch the episode online at all?

Eventually, I bet. I watched the making of a Samurai sword online. The whole episode. It was interesting. On pbs.org
