Progress on my first liner lock

I'm nearing the end of my first liner lock knife.
Here was my design, a ways back.

Here's the results so far. It still needs scales, heat treating, the detent bearing and polish of the blade. Some mistakes were made, but it works (to my own surprise)! Man was I nervous setting the spring.

Now for my question - The one thing I don't have the means, space or time to invest in is a heat treating oven. If anyone on here is capable / interested in heat treating a piece of A2 steel, please send me a note. I'm okay with either paying to have someone harden it, or bartering for some CAD work if someone wants a 3D model or print of their pattern. Or failing any of that, if someone knows a place local to San Diego that could harden it.

Thanks all!

I'm in SD but 1800 F is on the edge of what I built my oven to withstand. I'm also not set up for air quenching... I think you need some stainless foil for that.

That said, if you happen to make something out of 10xx/O-1/5160 I'd be happy to heat treat it for you.

Zhyla, I'm not intimately familiar with those steels, but you sound like someone I should make friends with for my next project(s).

Interestingly enough, I'm working on my first folder and am using A2 for the blade and spring also. Not exactly sure when I'll be doing the heat treat, its not very economical to run my oven up to temp for just a few tiny parts, so I'll probably work up another blade first. If you can wait a week or 2 I could run your parts also, unless you figure something else out.

Justin,

I've been working on this 15 minutes here and there since thanksgiving... I can wait if you're willing to help me out. Send me your info an I'm sure we can work something out.

A2 is the blade and spacer, but I used titanium for the spring... and I used .060 thick, which was way heavier than necessary. Next time I'll try something in the .025 - .040 range if I don't go to stainless.

Thanks!

The A2 isnt a problem but im a little bit ignorant about the ti, does that need to be heat treated also?

No need to HT the titanium. Some people torch the lockface on the Ti to make it harder but I just use a carbidizer. I love your fixed blades Justin and can't wait to see what you come up with for a folder.

Thank you very much for the info and the compliment! I was out of the shop and out of the loop for a while, but am getting back into it and changing directions a little. I'm going old school and doing a little slipjoint to start with.
