Progression...End of the Road?

My progression has led me to spending on steel stock and abrasives. Somewhere down the road is a milling machine. Can't say I've made anything I'm really happy with yet, and I should be doing that, instead of being on the internet......

I am a SAK guy from the beginning ;)
Then I started to get into more expensive knives (over $100) Something like 20 years ago.
However 3 years ago I have really get tired of the titanium frame lock flipper trends.
I have realised that I could be fine with my small inkosi, a large sebenza and a couple of SAK.
The I sold most of my collection and keep it under 10 knives for a while.
Then as time goes I started to get more knives again, just for the joy of experimenting new designs, profile or manufacturers.
When it happens that a design doesn’t really fill a need, I sale it
I was not reading my knives so much previously but know that I reached a point where I know which knives are the ones I really NEED, I enjoy more othera that I may WANT just to experiment for a short time.

Matthew moment i have 5 keepers and 25-30 that are “guests”
I am not looking anymore to find “the good one” has I already have them :)

I could be at the end of the road with what I own now. I don't want to be but, I could be if needed. This is assuming, of course, that my motor skills stay the same. As my skills go south, my needs will change. It happens to all of us.

I like what I now own. Sure, there are a few knives that I would like to get but, like is not a need. The collection I have works very nicely with my lifestyle.

The funny thing about all of this is that I still drool over folders and fixed blades that I would have used 30 years ago. Then I stop and think, "Hey, I don't need anything like this anymore. I'm 62, not 22. All this high-speed stuff is surplus to my needs.

The other fun thing about all of this is seeing how knives change as my lifestyle changes. If you would have told me 30 years ago
that I could get by with a SAK I would have looked at you as if you were a mental case. It is amazing how much I can get done with a Griptillian and a Cadet. Maybe a Spartan instead of the Cadet.

Let's say I was forced to scale back to only three knives before midnight. Based on my lifestyle and what I own and use the most, I'd go with a large Griptillian, a basic SAK (Cadet), and a fixed blade. I don't use fixed much and not really sure what I'd grab. Maybe my father's hunting knife.
