I just found me another project knife.

A BM940 that has had a hard life in 154 steel.

Scales are trashed. Heavy dents. Blade scored.

Now it will be going in to BM for a reblade but I would like your opions
on the blade.

Should I go for the sheepfoot or clip point.

And yes I will post after pics

The scales will be going away and replaced with DOATs.

or grind, sand blast and ceracoat them. I really haven't decided.

after all is said and done. It will still be under the cost of a new one
set to my flavor.

TIA

and here is my shamless plug.
I love BM because I can reblade unlike the insect guys

You're between a rock and a hard place. They won't give you an S-90-V blade for the 940, and the 943 blade isn't even offered in S-90-V. I prefer the clip blade, but the best steel I can get is S-30-V. I have other knives in S-60, S-90, S-110, and S-125. Guess why I no longer carry a 943.

Agree with jazub. Your knife has character. I wouldn't change a thing about it other than sharpening and continue in using the hell out of it.

Looks like it will be sheepsfoot because of the steel. As is stands

Benchamade only has S30 blades:D. No more 154.

Normally I would pass on knives in this condition
but since it is literally rebuildable.

I took the plunge because it was too cheap to pass on
to see what the 940 hype is about.

Leaving it as is....IDK..
If I leave it as is it will cost nothing and 154 takes a decent edge.

Kind of like a Rat rod

I wonder if they would give you one in 20cv?

I bought an old 941 (clip point 154cm) with the idea of re-blading to S30v, but damn if that knife isn't built perfectly and took a ridiculous edge. It's a dress knife for me, and 154CM will do juuuust fine.

I say keep it. It has earned its stripes.

I love the thought of sanding it down, that would be awesome. I have 3 versions of the 940/943 (with another coming Saturday [emoji2]) and love them all. A silvered out one would be sweet! You gonna divulge how much you paid so I can be jealous that you got the chance to tinker with it?

Typically Benchmade won't upgrade blade steels. Your knife would benefit from a trip up for servicing, and I also would leave it and love it as is.

Well.............
That old saying bide your time paid off.
20 bucks .
and a trade that cost me nothing because I found it.

.
.

After seeing all of the leave it as is.

I think I will.
Except for the mandatory dismantling, Sonic cleaing all parts.
Lube with my preferred lube and retouch the edge on the sharpmaker.

Besides

I would cry once it would of been made all pretty and then it received a scratch or dent
compared to the way it is now.

Thanks guys for your input. As soon as it comes in Ill post detailed pics
of the before and after a mild R&R.

I would say replace the blade a 943 blade and then send it off to have the handle refinished and cerakoated.

I like that you chose to keep as-is - it makes mine look like a safe queen! Really though, for a user knife it is in close to perfect condition by my standards, sharpen and use the heck out of it.

So glad you decided to keep it as-is. That is an awesome knife and it has character. If there are any sharp parts on the scales you could always lightly file the dent/scratch just to make it not so sharp.

If it were mine I would do just as you are.....dissemble it, clean and oil, and reassemble.

Good choice.
