So I have a couple of projects on the go right now and thought I would share them.
Knife wise I have 2 bowie like knives on the go, both are just shy of HT ready, I need to do a bit more sanding on them first. the one with the thicker tang is getting a brass single sided guard, red spacers on either side of a brass spacer with a Claro Walnut handle. The other will have a redwood burl handle same style of guard but the spacers will be black instead.
Steel: 13/64 5160
blade length: 6 1/4"
handle length w/guard: 5 1/4"
OAL: just shy of 11"
Both are full flat grind, all done with files and sanding
Next on the knife board is a pair of bushcraft knives and my first attempt at scandi grinds both are roughly the same but I added a triangular lanyard out past the handle material on the second one. I will be cleaning out the hole with files and rounding out the corners and putting a radius on the inside edges before HT. I will be using maple burl for the handles and will be giving them the ever popular coke bottle profile for a more secure grip. they will be held in place with 3/16 brass pins and have black liners. I have the bevel on the first one and just started sanding today. This is the first time I have tried to cut the bevel in with my crappy little 30X1 grinder. I had to go back to the file and jig to square things up but it wasn't too bad and went much faster then going with the files all the way. I am happy with the way the grind is coming on the first one, the grinds are even as are the short plunges.
Steel: 3/16 O1
Blade Length: 4 1/8"
Handle Length: 5" and 5 1/4" for the one with the lanyard
OAL: 9 1/4" and 9 1/2" for the one with lanyard.
I don't have any pictures of my other project and can't get to it right now to take any. The other project would be my forge. That has been put on the back burner for a bit because I am not sure if I will be able to use it once its done because of my tennis elbow
. Everything is welded up except for the burner but it is nearly done. Soon I will be bringing it home and lining it. As soon as I get some pictures of it I will post them up.
So that's what I have on the go right now.
I should have pics up some time after 7:30 for anyone who wants to see.
