Prominent "fighting knife" makers

Bri,

Obviously I am confused here.

Are you looking for knives for a collection?

Or knives you plan to fight with.

Willrise,

Great story! I understand completely about having to change your underwear.

What most self defense instructors will tell you is that your "attitude" and the way you carry yourself can more times than not keep you out of a fight.

Your story is along those lines.

I grew up in the SE Suburbs of Chicago. Now I live in Georgia. A knife and a baton get you nothing but laughed at here. No Felony Convictions, attend a firearms training course and register the firearm and you have a concealed weapons permit.

Not to mention all the shotguns and rifles carried in the rifle racks in the trucks.

Around here, you don't even have to register your gun, or take a training course. Just give the police 20 bucks, sign some papers, and you're in.

In 1968 Gil designed the Kenpo Knife (sometimes called the Ed Parker Fighting Knife) for his black belt thesis on knife fighting using Kenpo tactics. His thesis became the basis of the Kenpo system's Long Form VIII (the double dagger form) which uses two knives in mock combat.)

To me the ultimate fighting knife is a fighting bowie and Bill Bagwell is tops on that in my humble opinion. For a more contemporary style I think Brend tops the list. But there are so many great makers out there you should look around and find something that fits you. I carry a big knife because I travel in and out of states that do not allow me to carry a firearm. A big good blade is awful comforting at times. I would rather have a gun but having the proper blade is better than scratchin um to death. Take a look at Matt Lameys stuff he makes some neat bowies that would make a fine companion.

Sorry, not trying to derail the thread or anything, but I take exception to woodworkghost's comments regarding whether or not I or others in this thread have had real world experience in knife fighting. I found your comment to be somewhat condescending and slightly insulting.

I have not, nor ever hope to be in a situation where I have to use a knife to try and kill another human. I like people, and don't carry a knife for violent imaginings or 'self defense'. Truth be told, I will run my ass off if confronted by a loser with a knife, and always take precautions in my life to avoid being in situations like that. I've never had martial training and to be honest, have no real desire for it. I abhor violence and abstain whenever possible from conflict for that reason.

None of this of course means I don't like a nice fighting knife, for the same reasons Mr. Garsson mentioned in his post.

The question asked was who in the knife making world designs knives for a martial intent. My answer, Bob Terzuola, was an honest stab at providing an answer to the question. I don't feel I need to qualify that answer by having been in a knife fight.:jerkit:

Eric Fritz wow beutiful . I really like the damascus and the last blade pictured. Thanks
