Promised these in another thread ... not a lot of time, so the shots are rather basic
Photo's are here.
Comments, Out of the box impressions;
G10 is different than any of my other Spydies... MUCH rougher. It's already starting to smooth out though with very little handling.
The knife just feels different than any other Sypderco I've had/have. Super heavy, feels maybe like a beefed-up Tenacious (much higher quality tho). If you are concerned about weight, skip this one. Feels 2x as heavy as the Millie.
Action is very smooth. Axis like. Me likes.
Ball lock was tight out of the box, also getting better; breaking in. No way to disengage it with one side, see one of the images posted, I release the lock just like I do axis locks; thumb and forefinger.
Easy to flip spydie style or "axis" style. Clear plastic ... I'm out on this one still, would look better in black I think, but no biggie. I really don't need to see the ball in there.
I need to fondle this one more, but I'm really starting to like it. My wife says I use knives like a baby uses a pacifier, something to do with my hands I suppose
Still not comfortable closing it left handed, most knives I'm comfortable with in either hand. Practice I suppose, but it is DEF easier to operate right handed, mainly because I use the clip for grip when closing the blade.
Worth the price? No doubt. I'll probably make this "less valuable" blade my daily carry and not worry about it. It's one heavy duty piece! Blade steel snobs will complain about the 154CM ... I've always liked the steel so no issue there for me. My blades do not get heavy-duty daily use. Doesn't matter what they make, many will want something else and by the time the critics get done redesigning the knife, it's up over $200 lol. A good quality piece at this price point was a good idea and I think they made the right compromise. It's an affordable, heavy-duty user, plain and simple.
Tip up only carry? Not a problem, although I generally prefer tip down, I carry both and life is good.
The enlarged lanyard hole is a nice touch although I normally don't use them. The negative (pretty much the only one I've got so far) is that the hole and clip are too close together. No idea if function would be an issue, it just looks odd... like an afterthought? The clip is mounted as high as possible, which should make many folks happy.
Delivered shaving sharp. Yup, I'd prefer a FFG, but it's all good. Blade shape is very well done and SUBSTANTIAL. Maintains a lot of width to the tip. Will post an update once I get a chance to do some typical cutting. The edge is NOT equal on both sides, the logo side has more edge/grind.
Jimping. Chocked-up, it works well, the Choil is done well as is the top of the blade; good solid grip. The rest of it? Pretty much esthetics.
In hand... Fit's like a glove (not chocked-up) using the choil, the grip is not as natural feeling as say the para/millie or the UKPK. (I wear large size gloves btw) It's a good, hand filling feel.
That about covers initial impressions. At tis point;
1) I'm glad I bought it.
2) If you like large, hand-filling, substantial knives, it rocks. (I like)
3) I'll by new versions when/if they become available.
4) I'll post an update after EDC for a couple weeks.
Questions/photo requests, let me know.
