Promised these in another thread ... not a lot of time, so the shots are rather basic :)

Photo's are here.

Comments, Out of the box impressions;

G10 is different than any of my other Spydies... MUCH rougher. It's already starting to smooth out though with very little handling.

The knife just feels different than any other Sypderco I've had/have. Super heavy, feels maybe like a beefed-up Tenacious (much higher quality tho). If you are concerned about weight, skip this one. Feels 2x as heavy as the Millie.

Action is very smooth. Axis like. Me likes.

Ball lock was tight out of the box, also getting better; breaking in. No way to disengage it with one side, see one of the images posted, I release the lock just like I do axis locks; thumb and forefinger.

Easy to flip spydie style or "axis" style. Clear plastic ... I'm out on this one still, would look better in black I think, but no biggie. I really don't need to see the ball in there.

I need to fondle this one more, but I'm really starting to like it. My wife says I use knives like a baby uses a pacifier, something to do with my hands I suppose :) Still not comfortable closing it left handed, most knives I'm comfortable with in either hand. Practice I suppose, but it is DEF easier to operate right handed, mainly because I use the clip for grip when closing the blade.

Worth the price? No doubt. I'll probably make this "less valuable" blade my daily carry and not worry about it. It's one heavy duty piece! Blade steel snobs will complain about the 154CM ... I've always liked the steel so no issue there for me. My blades do not get heavy-duty daily use. Doesn't matter what they make, many will want something else and by the time the critics get done redesigning the knife, it's up over $200 lol. A good quality piece at this price point was a good idea and I think they made the right compromise. It's an affordable, heavy-duty user, plain and simple.

Tip up only carry? Not a problem, although I generally prefer tip down, I carry both and life is good.

The enlarged lanyard hole is a nice touch although I normally don't use them. The negative (pretty much the only one I've got so far) is that the hole and clip are too close together. No idea if function would be an issue, it just looks odd... like an afterthought? The clip is mounted as high as possible, which should make many folks happy.

Delivered shaving sharp. Yup, I'd prefer a FFG, but it's all good. Blade shape is very well done and SUBSTANTIAL. Maintains a lot of width to the tip. Will post an update once I get a chance to do some typical cutting. The edge is NOT equal on both sides, the logo side has more edge/grind.

Jimping. Chocked-up, it works well, the Choil is done well as is the top of the blade; good solid grip. The rest of it? Pretty much esthetics.

In hand... Fit's like a glove (not chocked-up) using the choil, the grip is not as natural feeling as say the para/millie or the UKPK. (I wear large size gloves btw) It's a good, hand filling feel.

That about covers initial impressions. At tis point;

1) I'm glad I bought it.
2) If you like large, hand-filling, substantial knives, it rocks. (I like)
3) I'll by new versions when/if they become available.
4) I'll post an update after EDC for a couple weeks.

Questions/photo requests, let me know.

Nice review, great pics.

Got one on the way, but it will be a while since I'm in Norway..

Is this intentional? Also, loved the review.
I doubt it ... I doubt a lot of folks would notice it. I also doubt it will continue in production, QC is bound to catch it. It's not a big enough deal for me to even contact Sypderco for warranty/replacement.

BTW, I officially own it now... nice Spyder Bite already.

Ouch. How'd you get bitten? Can you take a video of you holding the knife horizontally and just disengaging the ball lock? I've heard the ball lock is so smooth that when you pull back on it, the blade just falls out and rocks back and forth.

Looks nice! Is it longer then the Manix 1? For some reason I always thought it was smaller and didn't want one if it was.

Just maybe I'll get one unless something else happens. Its very disappointing to look forward to a new spyderco only to come home to nothing and seeing how its not coming.

I will answer your question because I just got mine yesterday. When you pull back the ball lock it will swing as long as you hold the ball back.As soon as you let it go it will stop the blade in it's tracks.I got bit learning that yesterday. It must have to do with the weight of the blade because my P'Kal doesn't fall with that speed and force.Great knife by the way,Best for the money equal or better then the endura.Like a endura in value but a higher end version. The edge bevels on mine were symetrical as were the hollow grinds, and shaving sharp.I looked through 6 boxes at my lacal knife shop and they were all equal in quality.

thx gine.:)

That's how it bit me ... works the same way the Para does.

thx for the review and pics!!

the clip looks oddly placed, as though it would cant the knife in your pocket or the clip would ride at an angle.

what are your thoughts?

OP, could you post a picture of the top of the blade so we can see the spine? I wanna see how thick the blade tip is. It's hard to tell from seeing the blade on the side.

Actually, it rides nice in the pocket.

Pic is now in the original link. Very close to the Millie, thicker than the Endura. No calipers, sorry.

Thanks for the pic. Makes it really evident how the tip is on that blade. I do wish the tip were more robust. But hey, if the tanto tip from my bro's grippy can get dulled after stabbing a plastic packaging (one of those where all edges are vacuum melted/sealed shut) to open it, I'm sure any tip would dull.

I'll get a Manix 2 soon enough. End of July most likely.
