propane bottles

Is there a safe way to cut open the small propane bottles (empty) for use as a crucible? Thanks.

im scared of gas bottles,i always leave valve open for hours and
shoot a hole in the top with a rifle at a safe distance works for
me.

I just cut a propane tank in two today with my oxy acetelyne torch. I took the valve out and washed it real good with water and let it sit for a couple weeks first. Gonna make a smelter with it.
