propane forge fittings

I just got a 0-30 psi hi pressure propane reg from Agrisupply with 1/4" npts.... and it comes with a POL fitting on the inlet side that has a black knob (http://www.agrisupply.com/product.asp?pn=64484&sid=&eid=). So... I'm using a Zoeller Forge side arm burner and he indicates the use of a full flow POL going into the tank. Does anybody know how I can tell if the POL that came with my reg is a hardnose full flow POL? Or should I just remove it and buy one??

The full flow POL looks like the hole is about 3/16" ( at least an eighth inch). The bbq grill ones look like a small mig tip opening.

Thanks... That's what I have.

Next question.... can you install an inline gauge just downstream from the regulator if your reg doesn't have a port for one?

Yes, just use a simple Tee fitting and a guage. McMaster Carr is where I get my gauges.

alright... good... I was thinking it would be a simple tee coming right off the 1/4" outlet. I bought a gauge thinking my reg would have a port.

Last question for now... I'm trying to find a high pressure LP hose that has either 1/4" male fittings on both sides... or a 9/16 female on one side and 1/4 male on the other.... Basically I'm trying to connect my regulator to the burner which has a 1/8" threaded nipple. So the 1/4" male end would have to screw into 1/4"x1/8" bushing. Man this stuff is hard to get together...

I have two local Propane suppliers....when I need fittings, I can get anything I need at either location. The one who supplies me with/delivers propane to my shop just lets me go into their shop area and put together whatever I need, and I just pay them for the parts before I leave.

They will make up hoses whatever length, and with whatever fitting I indicate.

yeah... apparently I need to make some friends. I called both of our local propane suppliers and I got secretaries that said they won't do stuff like that for liability reasons. Somehow I need to get past the front desk. I'm sure there's a good fella working back in the shop.

Good luck finding that hose. The propane hose you are looking for has female Left Hand threads on both ends. You need fittings to make it fit what you need, in particular a 1/4" to LH gas thread brass fitting and a 1/4" to 1/8" reducing bushing and a 1/4" collar (or whatever they're called). The other LH hose thread goes to the regulator. Tell the propane place that you need a 10' propane hose to connect your camper stove to the regulator and you shouldn't need to say anymore than that.

I would verify that your regulator does indeed have a LH thread connector just so I'm not talking out of my ass, if you know what I mean. :)

Oh yeah, and you can IxNay on the "high pressure" verbiage. You are connecting to the low pressure side.

incidentally, this hose is the same hose that is used on barbecues and classic propane auto conversions. I actually snagged a hose off a propane truck that was at the pick-n-pull that would have worked fine for the forge.

well I think I got it figured. I found the hose with 1/4 male fittings on both sides and I managed to scrounge up the 1/4x1/8 bushing. I think I have it all!

Sweet. That regulator is a different animal than mine and what I was thinking you had...(need to read closer before posting) guess you can forgo all the LH thread mumbo jumbo then. you just need more fittings and a separate gauge.

Yeah... I'm putting an inline brass T right out of the reg for my gauge. Now I'm just waiting for my burner to come. I thought I was saving money by trying to get things locally for the actual connection... which I have... but it was a pain. I should've just gotten everything from Zoeller. Oh well.

The only thing left to wonder about is whether or not my single 20# propane tank will freeze up.
