i was wondering if anyone has had experience with diamondback iron works? any feedback is much appreciated. thanks

Well.. I'm new to forging, and have barely got my anvil dirty since getting my forge a few months ago. I have the DB 2 burner knifemakers forge, and so far, it does what I need it to do and then some. From my reading it seems the majority of makers would go with a blown/forced air forge over an atmospheric though.

do you know of any advantages or disadvantages regarding atmospheric or blown? ive been firing with coal for several months now and im looking to increase productivity. i make mostly knives but also fire strikers and other utilitarian items. let me know what you think

I think someone that uses a blown forge would be better at discussing the pro/con list, but I think a lot of it boils down to fuel economy and the ability to set and hold temp (particularly if it's PID controlled). As far as what you are talking about, the DB gets plenty hot pretty quick. Welding temps should be no problem either, but I'm a long way from doing any forge welding/damascus personally. Hopefully someone better educated in these aspects will chime in soon.

I have had some experience with them and I tell you they are top notch! My father-in-law bought one of their forges and accidnetally broke the regulator, he tried to press some cold metal in a 20 ton press. A piece broke off and shot like a bullet through the regualtor, they sent him another one free of charge, and wouldnt except any money, they are GREAT to deal with in my opinion! and stand behind their stuff big time.

Mark is right about the main differences between the two types of forges. If you are thinking of buying a ready made forge instead of building your own I would suggest you go to http://elliscustomknifeworks.com/ he has some in stock and if you decide to make your own, which is not that hard, he has most everything you need for that to. He is a great guy and easy to deal with. Good luck.

I also have one of diamondback forges, the 2 burner blacksmiths model.I picked mine up at Dennis' shop and he is a very savvy and nice guy.The forge I bought forge welds very nicely at 5 or a little higher psi + his prices are better..I have made probably 5-6 forges and still have a blown forge that I seldom use--So I recommend his forges ----Regards Butch

I have the two burner blacksmiths model. I got it about 3 years ago and am very satisfied with it.

I used some Inswool and Satanite to round the chamber a little and have had no trouble with it. I live at 5700'+/- and it still reaches welding temps in about 5 minutes.

I will probably build my own next time, but if I were to buy one again, I would not hesitate to get it from him.
