Propane tank?

Anyone have suggestions for a 100# propane tank, best I can find locally is $119.
I lease my 100 pounder from Suburban Propane for like $40 a year, but that is because I use their delivery service. I don't have a truck, so I can't take the tank to the filling station as it were.

A 100# tank is heavy,to pick it up and haul it to the station to fill it up is cumbersom,i would get 2 40# tanks or 5 20# tanks..

I paid 98.00 for mine Will here at Dowdle Gas in Alexander city. I looked everywhere to and couldnt find a better price

Will, The last time I bought one a number of years ago it was around $80.00. Everything took a huge jump in price when the fuel was so high plus steel prices were high then to. Funny how when prices come down on some things the things we want are still way up there. What are you wanting a propane for anyway? Did you give up on the oil burner?

Those gas co. have a 300 lb one that is perty cheep to rent aND THEY WILL COME AND FILL HERE.

Get prices from Lowe's and from Home Depot. When you check with the propane companies and welding supply co. sometimes they give a pretty good price filled.
i.e. they give a discount on the tank because you are buying the fuel from them.
Do not get a smaller tank as they can give you problem with your burners.

Ray, the oil forge is rather finicky with windy conditions. The last 2 days I could forge I spent more time fiddling with the mixture than I did forging. The other reason is I had a small spill and it killed some of my neighbor's grass.... wifey said it's got to go. So I'm back to propane.

Alden, yeah, you're right. I used to use both 20# and 100# tanks when I ran propane forges. The smaller tanks tend to freeze up and have pressure surges. HD and Lowes are around $130 for their 100#tanks.

Vern, the gas companies down here don't look kindly on people running forges off of their tanks. My house is electric so I don't any hookups for propane, I think there's a covenant against one of those tanks in my neighborhood.

My solution for the freeze ups and 20# tanks is a 5 gallon pail of warm water, fill up the pail to about an inch from the top and set the tank in it so it just displaces a bit of water over the edge of the pail, good to go for 8 hours of forging.

I also have this arrangement situated in a corner and lean the tank so the regulator is resting against one of the walls.

I was going to run off a 300lbs tank but the gas company said it was illegal to run anything higher than 3 psi into a house with a tank that big, That would have been nice tho, heck it would have taken me forever to run that thing out. I have been forging 2 months on my 100lbs tank and I forge a good bit.
