Propane

I mean I could turn the last one off and just run the front two and it would be a two burner. That would work right? My thinking is I would rather have it and not need it then not have it and need it.

I think thoes 3 burner forges became popular because of forged n' fire. My best forge is a single burner but it is a verticle forge. Man I love that thing. I do have a single burner horizontal forge that I also use quite abit as well. I like the single burner becaus it makes one hot spot that alows me to focus the heat in one area if I so wish. I try and only heat the area I'm working as there is no need to waste the gas heating a section of the steel that I'm not even going to forge. If I need even heat I use the verticle forge but it's also really good for damascus. The forge used on the show just seams a bit large for every day normal size blade smithing.

I don't know from experience, but I've read shutting down some of the burners on a multiple burner forge can be problematic because they basically become exhaust pipes. There is also the issue of if the forge interior space is sized for multiple burners it's then too big for less burners. I looked at those majestics and almost bought one basically because of watching forged in fire. After more research I decided it wasn't the forge for me. I've yet to have my single burner forge not be big enough for any knife, and it has a rear pass through so theoretically you could go to any length given you can only work so much at once. The only limit I see with mine is if I wanted to do an axe of a given size, but then I'd need something wider not something longer.
