Proper knife storage

you really shouldn't store blades in leather; it retains moisture and promotes corrosion. but what do i care, it's your thousands of dollars!

I currently have Ren wax on them and where I live in California moisture isnt that big an issue but once I get a more permanent solution I plan to store them properly.

Thanks for the offer morimotom but I think ill let them suffer in there leather sheaths :D

Is Ren wax the actual product name? Is there a brand that I should look for? Can I get it at Lowes, Home Depot? And what products do you guys use on your strops? And where do you get it. Thanks.

Good thread.

I've thought of the Ren wax, but how is it for human consumption?

I've been using olive oil, once the blade is washed, in case I need to use for food prep...

I haven't used it but I read that some museums use neutral shoe polish on their antique swords and armor. I've also seen mention of a couple of the Rats using chap stick to keep corrosion off of their carry blades.

I keep mine oiled regularly. It's an excause to get them all out every once in a while. I have two desk drawers and a drawer in my dresser that I store mine in. Not pretty but effective. Some of the "more special" blades are in a locked and padded case.

All I can make out is E handles, some look like they are Badgers, I know there are others in there, but I kindof have tunnel vision right now.
I was going to say that looks like a HOG chest there but it appears you were an 04 inductee.
Nice collection, maybe there is somesort of Hog Price you can get on a quality safe, is the round trough like triple A in that it gets you discounts on stuff?
We need a shot of those laid out and nekkid so that we can admire the INFI, not just slabs, sheaths, and cardboard.

Thanks for the pics.

i dont blame ya, but hey, im a giver.

I see lots of e handles and lots of badgers

If you mean the second pic being badgers, they aren't. They're 1/4 thick original Satin Jacks.
Love that blade. My users aren't in the drawers.
Maybe sometime when I overcome the laziness I'll dig them all out for pics.

Thatmguy,
Mineral Oil is probably what you're looking for. Unlike Vegetable oil or Olive oil, it won't go rancid, and is just fine for human consumption, in fact, they sell it as a laxative (like castor oil), and you can get it at any drug store or WalMart, or whereever. It is non digestible, and will pass right through you.
.
On a second note, I've found silicone grease to be perfect for long term knife storage, it's very sticky, and goes a long way, it's also completely inert, and won't acidify over time like petroleum products. Also, unlike Ren Wax, you can see if your blade is entirely coated or not.
