proper way to jimp it up

Daizee is right, the pro way is with a checkering file. Of course a specialized tool will cost, about $50 for those keeping score. I was at Todd's today and finally got to use his special $50 file. Pretty cool!

Fresh outta heat treat, excuse the finish.

One of the most even ones I've seen.

Thank u much Warrior. Believe me..the sweat was sitting on my brows while doing it lol..but I have been playing with dremels for many years..I used to do detailed plastic tank models complete with background scenes.

Haha, I'll bet. I tried it on my 2, but they weren't even. Luckily, I didn't make them too deep, and filed them out. Where's the link to the thread where you did that one?

Been thinking of splurging, and getting one. That looks to be a 20LPI file.

Well, this is a difficult subject with a lot of ways to do it. Unfortunately so many variebles come into play that voids one or the other. If your working with soft or non heat threated steal. The best way to go is a checkering file. Its easy and relatively hard to screw up. Its about a $40. To $50. Dollar file new. But if were talkin about already heat treated steel that's a whole nother story. A dremmel cut off wheel or a stone wheel is about all that will cut it. And as far as it lookin good is just the matter of how good or steady you are with your hands. Take some mild steel and practice.

Now that's what I'm talking about murphnuge. Those are perfect. Maybe we could all chip in and do a pass around of the checkering file Hahaha.

Dlg097, you know only the best for you buddy, the spinninest chromiest 28" rims fer ya!

Here's my jimp job on the junglas. I used a cylindrical shaped carbide bit. It's really easy to screw up with that method, but it's quick. :D

The logical one nails it! That's very nice. Was that bit for the dremel and if so do u have a catalogue numba? That spacing is damn perfect. Damn!

Thanks. Found a picture of the carbide bit on google, it's the dremel 9903. Make sure you spray some wd40 on there to lube/cool it as you're grinding. Also note that marking it doesn't really help as I noticed the starting point would always be a tad bit off from the markings. Really good eyes and a bit of luck is needed for even spacing.

Roger that, The logical one, I will be grabbing that bit and just gonna take it slow . Thanks again.

Something like this.. I also like the look of the half moon type..like on strides. What tool do you think would make the half moon style?

Thanks for your input daizee definitely noted, I get some nutty ideas sometimes.

Or, you can use a dremel with diamond file bits. Worked like a charm on my 2, as long as you don't heat it up too much.

I'm liking that jimping right there..... but with that close of a distance it's actually a lot harder to do; you have some serious skills sir.

The trick is to use the Dremel Extension Shaft (google it). It makes it more like you're holding a large pencil, and it's MUCH easier to be accurate and steady. I bought that thing after botching my first attempt at jimping...
