Proposed Federal Law Banning Many Pocket Knives

If you frighten enough people they will go along with just about anything.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

Joseph Goebels, Adolph Hitler's Minister of Propaganda

So, will this affect all blades, or just imports?

That's what I'm wondering as well. In the initial reports, the answer seems to vary. I think the best course of action is to, like KnifeRights.org said, remain calm (somewhat) and wait for all the real info to be gathered in. And then, once all is said and done, let these morons know just how stupid they are. But one good thing to remember is that this has been tried before (or something similar). Remember when they tried to ban knives in Hawaii? Everyone got real pissed off, and the politicians backed off. Hopefully the same resolution will happen here....

I can't say this came as a total shock to me though, I knew they'd come after the AO's at some point. It's the natural progression of the lawmakers attempts to remove all sense of self-sufficiency from the masses. We cannot have anything that could be used as a weapon, because automatically we'll all end up killing each other. We don't know what we need, or what's good for us, only the government does. (sorry, couldn't help myself). And part of the blame rests with those who do use these knives for the wanton acts of violence and crime they commit. If they did not do so, then politicians would have a harder time justifying this crap.

I just don't understand why they feel it's necessary? I mean, what are they honestly accomplishing by putting this forward other than making a huge mess for themselves and for others with no benefit? Why is it the fate of all government to meddle in the affairs of what the average joe carries in their pockets in the first place? Hasn't state regulation been enough already?

When it comes to any such regulation, the reason is citizen control, a prerequisite to which is disarmament, even with respect to something relatively trivial such as blades.

Though they offer "crime control" as the reason, that is a bald faced lie, since, tautologically, it is the law abiding that obey these laws, and the law abiding are not exactly the source of our crime problem.

Since our Dear Leader has promised to work tirelessly to remedy our excessive freedom, better have some bandages handy as this is going to be a death of a thousand cuts.

i also think about everyone who has many knives, customs, & might want to sell them to raise money in times of trouble, etc.except maybe for these forums & a few others, thats going to limit everyone heavily. im sure ebay will follow the govt & prohibit all thumb stud knives,or all folders in general.if they think deploying a knife quick is just to use as a weapon, they are joking.out of every stabbing incident i have ever seen in the paper or on cops in the last few years, almost all were done with kitchen knives, steak knives, the percent of one handed knives is almost non existant.i would like to see one documented case of someone stabbed with a benchmade 710,sebenza, a strider,a hinderer,or any other custom, for example.i can almost guarantee you wont find one case.

Looks like the madness has spread down under

Just got notification from Fedex that a parcel from Knife Centre is being held
by Customs in Sydney 'Goods are subject to regulatory review.'
No change in legislation has been announced, I rang Customs and they told me that anything with a thumb stud or the like will likely be siezed.
The shipment includes a Spyderco Mannix2, and two small Boker folders.
So, no law change, just a stricter interpretation of existing laws.
I wonder where they got that idea?
