Pros & Cons: Fusion vs. Straight Handle?

is the new stuff really better? sorry if that was a joke...

yes, it was a joke.

As for twisting, again it all depends on how you use it. I do not experience that problem with straight handles, so again it is what it is. You use what you like best.

Only one mention of the ERGO handles. Makes sense since the question was straight vs. Fusion.
However, there was one comment and it was negative. I must disagree.
I own and use several ergos and several Mag fusions. Ergo suits me better. I sold several non-mag fusion types. Didn't like 'em.
Hell, they are all great knives and If the truth be known, I wish I had never sold any.

it is wierd about ergos, but the larger they get the cheaper they get. The BA-e and the NO-E are hard to get and sell quickly. The SH-E sells fairly fast. But the BM-E will not sell at all unless it is dirt cheap, except for certain variations like Satin zero tolerance models. BM-E is a good blade.

Well I was thinking more about the Uncle Mofo, which is my favorite E handle.

Mine also.

I had about 6 or 7 all told at various times from CG MOJO's, to LE's, Desert, and a LE MOFO.

The DC Uncle Mofo was the nicest in the hand of all of them. Don't know why, just was.

In a time of really tight funds I had to sell it. It also went to Alaska, but not to KAAK. Never heard from it again, so I guess it's getting well whumped up there in the snow.

I still have one of the SHSH's that I got from you years ago. Seems there was also a Satin Jack in the mix.

Very few Busse's impress me like the SH's, and that is mostly on the smaller blades like the AD and GW.

I'm speaking mainly of how they feel to me, in the hand.

Rob

Rob so your the guy I sold the Satin Jack to. Couldn't remember. How do you like it and the SHSH? Do you remember when you got those from me? Must have been at least three or four years? We should meet up sometime when we can both get away, I'm in N.E FL your S.E. FL maybe we could meet in the middle bring all of our toys and do a short camping trip, it would be even nicer if we could find a few more people in or around FL willing to participate. Anyway have a great Easter everyone, Jeff

Also, in regards to every ones comments. I believe all knives fit people differently. I think most will agree. Holding a Busse chopper in your hand on the couch and full force chopping are two entirely different things all together. What may feel like a glove on your couch may feel horrible in the field. Also someone posted above about the fusions not twisting mine does badly while chopping, but I'll learn to compensate as cobalt mentioned about the SH's. My two cents.

So, it almost sounds like the Fusion handle is sort of like a beavertail on a 1911 and prevents hammer bite.

For those that chop with SH, do you just compensate with a different grip or have you modified the knife in some way? I would think a thick rubber O-ring slipped over the handle would prevent it from biting one's pinky finger. Has anyone tried something like this?

I used to have to re-grip during use by sliding my hand back up towards the choil every once in a while. As far as an o-ring, you could try it. The fusions are the best feeling in the hand for me and I've owned them all. Including the zero tolerannce line, Ergos, straight, and fusion. That said, I like the look of the SHBM's the best. If I ever get another one I will round out the radiuses around the rear talon as papathud mentioned. And I would do an extreme job of it. really smoothing out those edges. Man that would be nice. The only thing about the older SHBM's is the fact that my slotted 1 of 300 was about 1/8" shorter than the others and 1/4" thinner (from edge to spine) Looked like someone had screwed up the bevel somehow and tried to grind a lot off the edge area to get it normal again. It was also wavy at the edge. On a DMT it was very obvious as several portions of the blade didn't contact the stone until a very extesive several hour reprofiling process. They have come a LONG way. -Jeff
