Pros/Cons of high end folders??

Another college student weighing in here. I personally don't see the point of a $200+ folder, however, I also refuse to buy Wal-Mart junk knives. I may carry up to $100 worth of knives on me at any given time, but that's spread over 3 knives, which is perfectly adequate for me.

I'm a 21 year old collage student and also into knives. I have to agree with what you said there is a huge difference between Wal-mart junk and a good quality knife from a reputable manufacturer.

Most collage students are on a VERY limited budget unless your a trust fund baby or something. More often then not game consoles are given as gifts but knives not so much. I have some budget knives (75$-150$) and some higher end knives (200+) but other then fit and finish I can't tell the difference.

You can get a GREAT folder for 100 bucks that will perform 95% as good as the ones that are 400 bucks. Maybe not look as cool or have as good a warranty but whatever. Make your choice.

Most of us probably don't need the high end folders, but we ALL want them. If that wasn't true, XM-18's wouldn't sell out everywhere within minutes of arriving in stock.

I don't own one, but I'm keeping my eyes peeled for one. And once I get it, I will use it, and all of the scratches and blemishes that come along with that use will give it character, and only make the knife more "mine".

I'm sure if you never signed up for bladeforums, you probably wouldn't even be having these questions, but now that you did, you probably will always have that "what if" in the back of your mind until you pull the trigger on one of the expensive folders...

I hope your college education gets you a nice job where you can afford to buy and use lots of expensive knifes!

Guys, check your local Walmart, there are some quality offerings from Buck, Kershaw and Leatherman there.

I own Opinels and Moras, and I own Sebenzas and custom bushcraft geared knives. I had a custom folder, from Mike Obenauf, which I wish I would've kept. I had Striders, which I wish I would have kept. I've had a fair amount of Sebenzas and other CRK's, which I wish I would have kept. Most of those came from trading. These knives are not priced out of the stratosphere. Lots of members on here state they bought a couple of XYZ brands a month, knives around 30-130 dollars. Save your coin, get rid of a few folders, and check out a Sebenza/Strider/William Henry/XM18 etc. Or keep buying what you like. No one is twisting your arm to do either.
