Pros & Cons of teflon washers...GO!

My 3" might as well be a fixed blade when opened.0 side to side play. Don't know about the 3.5 or 4".

Actually that's another benefit, it feels like there is no side to side play because the washers are soft & you can't feel the blade move like if the washers were metal. A better way to check for movement is to move the blade side to side when it's closed.

Interesting!

My blade can dance a jig for all I care when closed, it's when it's open and I need it that matters.

My blades don't wiggle, btw. Last comment on this.

My 3" was like a fixed blade as far as I could tell. Absolutely no bending at all. Looking forward to seeing what the 3.5" is like on Friday.

My XM blades wiggle when opened.......but that's due to my hand shaking from the awesomeness of the XM.

Seriously though, none of my XM,s have blade play in any direction when open.

If an XM has side to side play - tighten the pivot!

Teflon washers are way easier to drill then bronze, if you wanted perforated washers to hold your grease. When I assemble the XM the grease squeezes out, so you can drill small holes to retain grease & have the smoothest XM but still be able to tighten the pivot down solid. Every time you open the knife the grease in the holes spread fresh grease on the blade again.

Interesting mod, but why fix what ain't broke? Also, wouldn't drilling holes in the washers weaken the teflon? It could possibly contribute to the teflon tearing or otherwise breaking. From my experience 2 drops of Slick 50 in the pivot area every 3-4 weeks is all I need to keep my XM smooth as silk and lightening fast... Still awaiting the Daiwa Reel oil which was backordered when I bought some 2 weeks ago....

I just like how the Umnumzaan & Sebenza has perforations in the washers. It keeps re applying grease to the blade & washers for you & the grease is protected from dirt & gunk. You can go 3-4 months easily without needing to replace the lube. But your right though, it wasn't broke....
