Sure, if you want. They usually contain beeswax (which is edible, and quite tasty as part of natural honeycomb with the honey still in it) and carnauba wax (which is used on chewing gum, so also edible).

I've got both Boos Board Cream and Howard Butcher Block conditioner which are fine on cutting boards. I have never put them directly on a knife but I guess you could. Won't hurt you at least.
