Take a deep breath. Go to that calm place you keep tucked away & under wraps in order to escape into it when excitement mounts. Ready...

2.89 ounces
= lite weight & just a bit under 7.5 inches overall open = not too big so Protege is just right:

I've been hunting and pecking around for one for a bit until I found this one for under $26 delivered from KC so I couldn't resist and I'm glad that I didn't wait any longer. It couldn't be any better. It couldn't be more secure in my hand with the large rubber grip. I'm not about to let the other forumites beat me with their swat batons until I appreciate the benefits of a drop point blade. No nail nick keeps the blade clean and simple, easy to maintain and I can open it one-handed: Invert the closed knife in the right hand so you can read the BUCK, tightly pinch the blade between your thumb and index finger and throw the handle away from you while retaining your two-finger grip on the blade = opens with authority.

Great pictures, Oregon!!!! Trying to figure out the multiple one.

Here is my older 450 (1997) with a couple of cousins.

Nice one Oregon:thumbup: sweet pics as usual!

Thank you for the kind words sitflyer. The cutlery and the forumites provide the inspiration. I wish that the 450 on the Buck Web Specials was a plain edge. Seeing this DP folder discontinued makes me think that a new DP is in our future.

Two mirrors touching sides and separated by an acute angle (like a slice of mirror pie with the knife in the slice) on a glass table top outside in bright sunlight = the multiple pic setup.

A lot of usable belly on each of those blades. Thank you for the photo.

The guts/liners look like red doll-house-drink-sized ice cube trays. The manglers may have already tried this at home, or not. :) Now I'm thirsty.

I think that Buck figures that the Vantage line of folders is the DP for the masses. I would have to purchase a 112 DP produced for the masses of humanity.

I can't tell for sure, but I have a sneaky suspicion that the 450 and the 442 blades are the same with different stamps!
Perhaps I'll need to find a sacrificial lamb ...

Knife and blade comparo: Sandwich of 442/450/442 (450 is the center knife, AKA jelly, in the sandwich). Look like identical twins while in the knife to me.

Maybe thy will finally produce a DP 112 for the masses! Nahhhh, probably not :p

I'm sure you are correct in that. Never going to be a plain Jane DP 112. Never. Uh uh. About as likely as this fellow learning to fetch:

Note: Not actual fetching in the strict sense of the word. This eagle flew right into the stick you see in its claws and removed it instantly from high up in the old Oak snag and flew it to its mate and nest in a live Oak a few hundred yards away while I watched and to a few pics for your amusement.

LOL at my own foolishness. My pleasure. Don't mention it.

A couple Bald Eagles are building a nest in a huge live Oak about a mile from my homestead here. Its a good place for a walk with such entertainment. And nice to see home construction on the up tic.

The perfect lite user..A 450 Ion Fusion with NO serrations..Mine has them and there is just not enough blade.

The blades are not identical. The 450 does have an ugly hump while the 442 has a smoothly rounded and shaped top.

Wonder why they bother to make two so similar, yet different, shapes like that?

Nice pics, Oregon......eagles are great subjects.

:)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ;) I think the 450 blade is good looking and in my opinion made a great change in the 112/450 SP or BO knife that I posted about recently. The nearly the same but different blades of the same general pattern may be a bit unusual, but it's not unique.

Note the surprising (at least to me) difference in the blade shape of these two 2009 Ergo Hunter small game knives. One's the Avid with the Sanvick blade, the other is the Pro with an S30V blade. They both even have the same name, just one digit difference in the model number.

Oregon, not intending to hijack your thread, just making a point.

The blades, 450 vs 442 are NOT identical. The 450 does indeed have a humped back. Good eyes for detail you guys, you know who you are. Note that the 450 is again the jelly in the 442 sandwich:
