I have piles of traditionals.. Some have the same issue: proud springs on certain blades when open.. Does one file the tip of the spring to allow the blade more opening travel so it can sink into the tang more, or is there something beyond impeded blade travel causing this?

Thanks!

You should ponder the causes and act accordingly.
Are you sure there is not a built layer of lint/gunk?
Is the back flush in closed position?

If there is no dirt/gunk build up, the only way to properly correct it is to grind the blade tang.
Grinding the spring will make it sit low when the knife is closed.

Bill's right. Now if the spring is proud the same amount in opened AND closed position, then you can just flush up the end of the spring from the outside. If it's flush when closed and proud when open, then you'll have to grind/mill out the back of the tang where the spring makes contact and remove the amount that's proud.

Yea, that was what I was thinking.. I hoped I could maybe be wrong tho. My railsplitter will just have to be prideful I reckon. Thank you, Queen.

Just for reference, the knives in question are new, clean, and tight with the springs flush and clean when closed. In case anybody reads this later.

Thanks fellas!
