Does anyone display their Khukuris proudly, or other HI products? Or any larger blades for that matter.

What do you do with your kuk when it is not at in your hand, at your side or in the pack?

On the wall? In a chest? Under your pillow =)?
What about in the sheath, or not?

Pics if you please.

Personally., I don't have one yet... but may think about storing it on the wall, or hanging in its sheath nearby., though i'm not sure if it will damage the blade or not, by leaving it in the sheath.
What would some of you recommend?

ps.. edited to add that i've been reading you guys for a month, and look forward to owning a HI khukuri and contributing to some of the interesting discussions you fine gents seem to have..

Sheath is primarily wood. Oil or wax it up and put it back in the sheath as long as you aren't in a wet environment ir storing for over 6 mos.

I have two handing on the wall by my closet. My third, and favorit, is a BAS that sits on my night stand without its sheath. The BAS is the one that gets all of the attention, because it earns it through use. Right now it is sitting there with the handle hanging off the stand, covered with hooflex.

Ichh! Just grabbed a dhankuta ( horn sheath and handle I slathered last week with lanolin.

I have a maple top end table festooned with blades, and a crystal champagne bucket with a bouquet of khukuris. A few swords on the wall. My HI swords are on the table. They're so nice to handle that I can't stick em out of reach.

Mine hang in their scabbards from hooks in the basement ceiling when they are not in use or being "revised" with mustard or tru-oil. The reason being that out of all items in the house, these are the things that most frequently attract the attention of my 3.5 yr. old boy. It must be the curves of the scabbards, or shape of the handles.

Anyway, he is constantly pointing at them and asking: "Can I hold that sharp knife?" So I let him grip a handle briefly while I keep the rest of it secure and then hang it back up. This winter I am planning to make a locking cabinet to contain them more appropriately though, along with other khuk-related materials/substances.

There's one in a couch cushion in the basement, and one is under my pillow in my bedroom upstairs. I usually carry the one under my pillow with me around the house though... not unlike Aragorn or something...

Cliff I don't know if this is the correct link but you might check with www.GrizzlyIndustries.com or maybe just www.Grizzly.com and check out their gun safes. I got one for about $180.00 and $48.00 shipping!!!!
I made a couple of shelf inside it so it would hold more kukris and the guns are on the other side.
There's also a small locking bin above the guns for ammo and the like.
Mines bolted to the wall and even if someone could get a forklift into my house they would have to take the wall down to get the safe out.:)
Besides with what it weighs, about 300 pounds empty IIRC, it would take one helluva lot to move it with all the kukris and guns in it.
I keep a couple in the car and the truck and a few beside me at the computer.
Not that I have that many or anything.:D
Depending on what kind of cabinet you're gonna build this might be just as cheap, it's a helluva lot safer!!!!

Mine are strewn about the house - a few hanging, a few in the wine rack, one within easy reach without getting out of bed, several in the "ongoing project" pile.

There is a little loop on the sheath that serves well for hanging.

You might also want to search the forum for John Powell's legendary "Wall of Steel". He has many, many khuks displayed horizontally.

Most of mine are under the bed, on the side I sleep on. There's often a couple out next to the bed on the floor too. Whenever I'm cooking and have the front and back door open, then one is hanging under the counter in the kitchen. And there is often another getting another coat of oil on the handle or something, while dinner cooks. One usually seems to find its way near the computer when I'm on-line as well. But when I go to sleep they are all in the bedroom.

If you check posts from the past (maybe way past) you will find pictures from various collections. There are some terrific ideas and displays and one of my favorites is by HI's resident barrister and ace commentator, Berk. (Perhaps he will read this and post some pics...)

I thought about this.. but it would be difficult to search on something like that and get accurate results.. I'd have to sort through thousands of posts I think. It'd be nice to have them all in one place.

My BAS is upstairs by my bed because the stairway is too narrow for my 18" Kobra.
The Kobra is by my chair in the living room as I type.
In the kitchen I have knives and cleavers.

I display em' in a Home Depot bucket in the closet. One is on the printer for "special occasions". :)

Mine go under the bed, too, cared for by the infamous dust bunnies.

After all this time, I imagine you've got to be using a bunk bed.:D

That sounds just what the Dr ordered. Ran a check on the links, first one no good, 2nd OK but ran a search on their website for safes, gun safe, not in their current 2003 inventory.

Going to run a search on google and see what I can find in that price and configuration. With about 9K in Khukuris and quite a collection of firearms, I need another safe. Current safe in full with firearms and khukuris. Overflow of Khukuris stashed all over the place, kept hidden from Mom, in case she gets another idea.

WHEW! YVSA you must have bought that safe in 06. Review of many gun safe, gun cabinet etc sites from Google. Out of my pocket book for now. Will have to wait until I can get in town to see what is around.

Ics37, you just didn't look hard enough. :p ;) Here's the ten gun gun safe from Grizzly.
The total cost is now $300.00. Two hundred and twenty five bucks for the safe and $75.00 shipping. looks like the prices has went up a bit, but still plenty cheap enough!!!!:D
You scared me there for a minute, but this is such a popular product I couldn't see them discontinueing it.
They're not fire or waterproof, but they will deter thieves pretty much. Seven 7/8" diameter locking bars is enough to deter anyone except an experienced thief that was highly determined to get your gun and knives.:D
And that's along with a four number combination and a keyed lock!!!!

Still looking for a pic of my bookshelf display....

Thanks Yvsa

Sometimes, I'm like a mule, have to get a 2x4 to get my attention.

The extra effort and email is appreciated.
