Prying with a Busse

I was looking over some of my blades today and started to wonder... How much prying could a Busse knife withstand before bending? The Nuclear Ice Pick... Could I use it to pry? Or is it too thin?

check out knifetests.com. i believe noss did some prying with the FFBM before it got destroyed-ish

they will take quite a bit of abuse. however the amount of prying depends on the thickness of the blade.

i bent an oj warden with some light prying, but keep in mind the oj is among the thinner busses available. and it bent back easily to true.

infi is also known for being able to flex quite a bit then returning to true. again, this is inherently dependent on the thickness of the blade, and the flex point.

the nip should be fine for light prying, given its design. but also remember that the tip is the weak point, so prying using only the tip may result in some damage.

It's been said 1,000 times---a knife is not a pry bar. Unless you Have to, why pry with a knife? Any half-decent knife will pry.

Oh pfffff, the Fatty GW is not a knife. It's a piece of steel with a butt and a fat lip.......:D You could use it as a splitting wedge.

OK. I'll restate that: A knife is not a pry bar but a Busse INFI Knife, is a whole other story! Like that better? :)

Not sure about the NIP but I know I put all 345 pounds of me at the time on an NOe in a full yank with no ill effects....

.

NIP has terrible geometry for prying anyway, even if it was half an inch thick. it's not wide enough to distribute the pressure well. unless you need help prying open the top of a can of pepsi, I guess. if it's that important to you, why don't you try using it as a pry-bar and let us know how it does?

If I break it, how would I get another one from the BCS since they dont make them anymore...

Thanks for the responses.:)

Seed, where's your haul from Blade? I thought you were going to fill up on INFI; I was hoping for some pics!

She has congestive heart failure and they had to put her back in the hospital. I was hoping to head down to Blade and get a few pieces of INFI but I wasnt able to. SOrry man.

Sorry to hear about your grandma reconseed, didn't know you had to go home. Thoughts and prayers out to you :)

How about this for therapy? Get a block of ice, stick your NIP in it, take a picture, chip out some ice, take a picture of what INFI does to the target, make a drink with the offending ice, take a picture of ice in the drink with the NIP on top. Post said pictures and enjoy the drink. :D

Thank you for your thoughts. She is 87 years old and has lived a very long life and been a great person to know. We are hoping that she can get better but as you know, CHF isnt something that goes away a vast majority of the time.:( but we can always pray for her.

As for the Ice - where can I get a block of ice? Reckon a bag from the Apco will work? :)

That Fatty's handle blends right in with that tree bark! Thanx for the pic!
Sorry about G-Ma.
