I bought this grizzly 1x42 belt with 8" disk combo sander about a half year ago and have been making about 2 knives a week on it since. I noticed a month or so ago that the fit between blades and springs had been getting progressively worse in my slipjoints.

I think i found the problem!

Yep, I have a few different platens and surface grind them every once in a while. That’s the easiest way to handle it imo. If you can’t do that then try a razor blade scraper.

I had an idea to cut the stock platten down to about an inch and drill some holes in it. Then i can cut and bolt on different plattens. I can take a 3/16 piece of hardened O1 and bolt in on and when it wears down i can flip it over. A surface grinder and a mill are my next two purchases i hope to make in the next couple of years.
