PSark and Tanto Questions

Greetings! I’ve been here lurking and learning here for awhile and I have a quick question comparing the feel on my new PSark (BTS/ #47) and the I&I sports Tanto (BTS/#56) I’ve been carrying for few months now.

First - thanks to scott475 for the ebay pointer. I’d been looking for a Psark for a long time. It worked out well.

The question is mainly in the actions feel and differences in lockup. The Tanto is slippery smooth but locks up way to the left (maybe off the blade) viewed from the bottom. Also, the Tanto folded on me once when it was brand new and gave me quite a start. It has not done it since, but it is absolutely solid, no wobble at all once it locks up. The PSark is a lot “draggier” if that’s a word, and takes a noticeable push to get going but it locks up near the middle. The feel is nowhere near as bad as my old BM CQC7 clone, but noticeably different than the Tanto.

If I loosen the PSark blade bolt to make it feel easier the blade wobbles a bit but it waves better … BTW this wave thing is ridiculous! I had hoped it was all a gimmick but it was like … click, ohhh that’s nice…click, try it again…click, even the guys I work with were looking at me funny…until they tried it, now I have to go look for it when I finish here. Any idea what the record is for waves in a day?

I keep hearing some new models have double detents, any differences there between the two? Could the soft Tanto lockup be the culprit? The PSark is going to be a working/”Real” user and the wobble sort of bugs me, but if it’s no biggie I’ll just set it where it waves the most reliably for me and smile a lot.

Thanx for all the info you guys have given out, I really feel I’ve learned a lot.

Here's what I have been doing-Do a few hard wave openings with the P-SARK, disassemble, take some tension off the secondary detent (I have just been putting a little pressure on it with a screwdriver), reassemble, and I found they come out just great.

'Sup Kal

The only thing I can tell you is that each knife is different. The PSARK may just need a touch of lubrication and some "tender lovin' wavin'".

I've noticed that waved models tend to come tighter then non waved models. Not sure if that is on purpose or not. The SOCFKs were stout as Hell.

Both your knives have Secondary Detents. The Secondary Detents were added to the knives in mid '99.

The "Wave" does Rock. You should have seen peoples faces at the Blade Show.

I'm not sure what the record for "Most 'Waves' in a day" is, but I'd be willing to bet I'm up there.

Thanx, Ill try those suggestions tonight if it slows down. I just did not want to go off half cocked so to speak and make it all worse.

The Tanto came out of the box as close to perfect as I can imagine. The PSark is only"great" (I'm smiling...honest) EKI has a serious convert here.

Stay safe
