PSK carry options for EDC

Dustin,

That's a pretty cool tool! The reason I asked is, Houdini once remarked that the best pick for handcuffs was a hidden key. :)

Sure - this doesn't have one. There are a lot of places you can get them though - like the new ESEE wallet kit. Some vendors don't sell universal keys to the general public though.

Well I have a bag in my car (two actually) and one in the office, plus my carry all for books, papers, water bottle, computer, etc.

But on me:
SAK Huntsman (Or Vic Woodsman or Lumberjack,Watch pocket)
Gerber Infinity Ultra Flashlight (single AA cell, watch pocket)
Gerber Obsidian (or Kershaw Mini Cyclone or that type of locking folder, right front pocket)
Leatherman Blast (or Wave or Surge or Core, on belt)
Wallet (left rear pocket)
Money/Moneyclip (left front pocket)
Glasses
Keys (Gerber Shard and Vic Lumberjack on Keyring, Right front Pocket)

This is pretty typical of my on person stuff. My Carry all has a huge number of other items, and I have duplicates of most items in my Office bag and my Car kits. The stuff on my person is designed to be used daily for my work, plus get me to one of my other, more complete kits.

I don't know as i NEED it, but i like having it...

I carry an altoids tin PSK. I wear cargo pants about 90% of the time, and it rides in the left cargo pocket. If I'm wearing jeans or non-cargo pants i have one of those little nylon pouches from CountyComm that fits such a tin perfectly. It looks like a cell phone case on my belt.

I gots me some from the ESEE Advanced Kit and from another chap who does. But, I've collected handcuffs for years, so it is kind of a moot point not to sell me a universal jobby though. :D

I generally make my EDC into my pocket survival kit instead of carrying one separate. This is the thread that I started on what I carry and why. I have since started carrying my LM Wave much more frequently, I wear it on my belt at the 8 o'clock position. I have found that this covers most of my bases plus I have a bag of tricks that I keep near me. I don't carry it on my person all the time but it is never farther away then my car. In addition to all of that I have quite a bit of stuff in my car as well so I figure I'm pretty well covered.

With the announcement of ESEE's newest contest I got to thinking.
1. What sort of PSK do you carry?
2. Do you carry in an Altoids can or some other metal can?
3. Do you carry in some sort of nylon pouch?
4. Do you carry in the pocket or on a belt?
5. If you carry in a pocket do you wear only cargo pants?
6. Is there some other method of carrying one?

Obviously pictures would be great. Maybe you don't carry one on your person, why not? Is there a need for a small EDC or E&E kit to be carried daily on your person?

I don't know how much of a PSK it is, but I carry a few items that I think could help me out.

Typical day is a Vic alox Classic, Waiter, Soldier, and a "tactical folder" on me, as well as a Leatherman Wave. An ESEE survival card (to at least have something to jar me into thinking in a worst case scenario), a Gerber Task Light, cell phone, button compass, lighter, LMF Scout, and fingernail clippers. Along with two wallets, each with separate ID's and CC's.

If i can make it to my Jeep, I have a SOG Seal Pup, a Gerber mini-hatchet (back paxe?), some rope, gloves, and a tarp. Along with a sharpening stone, and I THINK a magnesium firestarter (mil-issue type, Doan).

Of the stuff ON me, I carry the lighter, Waiter, fingernail clippers, Wave, ESEE card, button compass, and LMF Scout in a Maxped M-2 (I think it is) on my belt. The tactical folder is in a belt sheath. Cell phone and Task Light in a belt holster. Everything else is distributed in my pockets. I used to carry some Carmex lip balm in the M2, but my allergies have been giving me so much trouble this fall that I substituted in eyedrops, some antihistamines, and an inhaler, which kinda threw my packing off.

The loadout isn't planned, particularly not WELL. But it is stuff that I generally find useful, plus a minimum bit of extra. I'm kinda paranoid about being able to make fire and have a knife, as you might surmise. Plus, I generally have a couple of band-aids in either the Jeep or my office. Forgot those.

i've got a pair of old cuffs that i think are from the 1880s or possibly earlier. i've only seen one other pair like them and that's where i got the date from.

they don't use a modern key.

any chance you have a link to a site with info on old cuffs?

i just looked here www.handcuffs.org but didn't see anything like the ones i have, but then they're hanging in the garage right now and not on my desk.

I have been considering carrying a bandana as well but didn't really want to look like a biker guy or gangbanger with it hanging out of my back pocket. Although it might make me look less militant.
.

i posted a link to the "bandanna color code" site before.

let's just say that it's not a good idea to leave the bandanna actually hanging out of your pocket. you may send the wrong message.

google if you dare.

it's amusing in a warped and twisted way.
