The all popular Personal Survival Kit or "PSK" is widely spoken within outdoors/survival circles.
All too often I see guys cram as much junk as they can into teeny tiny film canisters, Altoids tins, and small tackle boxes. The thing I rarely see is people actually USING these items.
They usually have miles of wire, fishing hooks, needles and other odds and ends. From my experience in the woods these are going to be extremely difficult to use in a real 'survival' situation.
I've never been much of a PSK person. I have different bags set up to do different things and I can mix and match as needed. I can see the utility of a very small kit that is able to do many things, so I'm going to put together one for myself. I'll tell you right now it will probably be a bit bigger than most peoples kits, but it will certainly still stick to the bare bones materials that I would need to live comfortably for a day or two.
Winter is coming quick for most of the US. Does that affect your kit? It shouldn't. A true 'survival' kit shouldn't be a fair weather item.
My challenge to you:
Get out and use the damn thing! (Post pics!)
Rules:
- There are no rules. This is your thing. I'm not going to tell you your PSK should be a certain size or contain certain items.
- That said, this shouldn't be a 'gear bag' full of typical bushcraft gear.
- This should sustain you for at least 24 hours.
Prize:
- There are no prizes.
- This will differentiate between the guys who like to talk about their PSK's and those who can actually use their PSK's.
Now............who is up for it??
