Hello my dear friends,
Thanks Good God today i was able to finish a new piece from our 'pocket beast' family, the PSK - inspired by Master knifemaker Nathan from Carothers knives to whom i thank for inspiration, i tried my limits into heat treatment and grinding geometry and i am very happy that it was a real success
The objective was to make a knife that can cut through steel bolts with zero edge damage and that can withstand cutting through a high strength compacted concrete construction block without damage beyond the micro bevel, without severe chipping or cracking and with the knife still being usable.
So here we are with the PSK with a blade made out of Wolfram Special high carbon steel, hardened to app 64 HRC, with a high flat grind and a 20 degree second bevel (quite a fine angle and thin edge considering also the only 0.078" thickness of the stock) and a stonewashed finish. The handle is made using military green linen micarta and the fittings are solid brass.
Please do excuse the vid exposure/quality but i haven't seen that the focus is too high and it was also a real challenge to macro shot the bevel (never knew how this is done right
) but it can be clearly seen that after the bolt cutting the edge had absolutely zero damage and that after the concrete block cut it only had minor chipping way below the second bevel line (i was able to get it back to razor sharp in 3 minutes on a work sharp system.
The blade is app 3.7" with an overall of app 7.9".
The price for this one is SOLD
All the best, God bless,
Bogdan
