the weird thing about caffeine is the body will shut down anyway if exhausted but metibolicly shows all the signs of stimulas.
To put it another way, you will sleep if tired enough even though your heart rate, bp is up and have tremors form caffeine overdose. This is why I say a true upper is the only way to counter that. Hard to get a scrip though.
I do believe they still issue pilots and spec ops uppers in the military for that reason.
Skam
The difference here is military action (where you're likely well fed and not in a SURVIVAL situation), versus a Personal Survival Kit where you are just trying to survive. I would not carry Ephedrine or take it in a survival situation; I believe it would be counter-productive to survival in any situation I can envision. I have read in several sources, as well as heard it in speeches/monologues/whatever you want to call it... lectures?... that in a survival situation, you should be throttling back to about 60% effort anyway to preserve your health and help you survive. Since ephedrine tends to help you push your body beyond its normal capabilities (over 100%), it seems like a bad idea to me.
Likewise, I don't think coffee would work well for me personally, because of the diuretic effects. I think a black tea would be as strong a caffeine source as I would be willing to use in a SURVIVAL situation.
