I know the "grail" word gets thrown around a lot in the world of knives. I've actively tried to avoid using the term because of how much it gets thrown around...after this weekend's acquistion, my position on using the "grail" word may have changed:

Yup....Grail unlocked! :D

The Busse AK-47 has been calling my name since I first started lurking around here in the second half of 2010. Somehow it's taken me up until now to finally score one, but I think it's safe to say it was well worth the wait because this is one special AK. Some of you may recognize this specific AK from here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/890417-So-I-hear-Ban-has-done-some-AK47-mods

Ban offered to let me buy his AK-47 a couple weeks ago, and I quickly scrambled to sell pretty much everything in my collection that I could bear to part with. Between unexpected expenses, along with a couple foolish purchases over the last couple of months before getting the chance to buy this, I had already let go of a couple special knives I really didn't want to let go of. Having said that, I have lusted after this specific AK for too long now...i had no choice but to do whatever it took to buy it. Now that it's in hand, I'm soooo glad I did!

Jerry, I salute you! The AK-47 is truly AWESOME in so many ways

Once I've had a chance to use it more and snap some better pics, I'll make another post.

For now, here are a couple more pics:

Just look at that deliciously frosty finish! And almost half of the blade polished.....just fantastic! In addition to the satin finish, polished edge with thinner more efficient cutting geometry, and those scales (a marble micarta made of two different colors of canvas and a couple sheets of carbon fiber), Ban also tapered the tang to shift a little more weight forward. It is just perfect in every way :enamored: :hearts: :cupid:

I wasn't able to use it as much as I would have liked to this weekend, but the little bit that I did use it left me pretty impressed:

After seeing how effortlessly it sliced through this little piece of bamboo, rest assured that I will be on the lookout for some wider pieces to test it out on.
It also did well on hardwood, despite not being a chopper. I've never really swung a sword before getting this AK - despite my inexperience, I was surprised to see that technique really does make a difference...that ads a depth of enjoyment that I really look forward to exploring as I use and enjoy it more.

OMG, this thing is soooo much fun!

Seriously guys (and gals), I recommend EVERYONE to try out a Busse sword at one point or another...if you're wanting a sword to enjoy for things other than cutting through bodies and generally fleshy objects, an INFI sword is the way to go ;)

Oh and in regards to the thread title, I'm pretty sure the wife is as smitten by this beautiful blade as i am:

Having said all this - I'd love to see some more AK pics if anyone feels like sharing!

Wow, congrats - that is one special AK! After seeing the last photo, I think your wife has already laid claim to your new AK! ;):D

Thanks for all of the photos and text – Ban does some nice work. The handle sure makes it one of a kind … very cool!

That blade seems totally one of a kind. Congrats on the score, especially if you've been stalking it for some time. I love the polish on the blade.

Here goes:

I first came upon Bladeforums while researching a sword maker who could make a genuine small sword. A lot of the questions that I asked on Google brought me to the forums.

The small sword that you see here is what I finally bought. Double loop hilt small sword from Arms & Armor. The most beautiful sword that I own. Then I found out about a real, beautiful, tough, do it all sword from a company called Scrapyard knife company. I bought 3 Scrapizashi..... Then saw the Busse AK47..... Love struck.... The ultimate .... Here are my pride and joys!!!

Thanks guys! I figured y'all might get a kick out of this one :)

I always appreciate your appreciation (does that work, grammatically speaking?) 😜

LoL yeah you may be right. She seems to love it as much as I do! To the point where I'm a little nervous about her hurting herself....or me for that matter [emoji38]
Nice AK Man! Did Ban put those slabs on there?
Ban did put those scales on at the same time as he did all the other modifications. Pretty sure he said they came from Shadetree...Pretty cool looking in the flesh, especially when the layers of carbon fiber catch the sun 😍😍😍

Now...what's your NEW GRAIL? ;)

HA! I guess that's how it goes...

The only knife I want badly enough to call a grail (for now at least) would have to be a Dalibor Bergam Draco or Sirius. Integral titanium folder with a well heat treated blade of 3v sounds like the last folder I'd ever need to buy!

As far as Busses go, here's what I'd really like to get my hands on:

1/300 SHBM
AD in green linen or snakeskin micarta
SARGE7 LE (i really miss this one!)

Well, for the purposes of simplicity, I'll keep it to just those right now

Nice! [emoji106]

The arms & armor sword is stunning! It really looks soo good! I had to save it to my computer and my phone....I'm no sword expert but that looks like it would be real nice to swing around and FAST in hand.

And of course the AK...well, you know...it speaks for itself ;) beautiful!

Thanks for sharing your story about your pride and joys! I don't know what it is about swords, but the love and appreciation I feel when I look at and handle mine feels different than the feelings when I handle my other knives...basically that's my long-winded way of saying those would be my pride and joys too 😉 🍻

Thanks right back at you .... Ban's stuff is always stunning! Great catch!

Gotta get better pics of my swords.

That is one GORGEOUS AK!!!
Congrats Hookah, that's on heck of a rare score!!!!!

Thanks :D

You guys rock!

Thanks Brother 👍👍 I don't know if it's because I've wanted a sword for pretty much my whole life, and now that I finally have one it's happening, but I've never connected to a blade as quickly and strongly as I have to this AK.

Some of my earliest memories revolve around sword making, general play, or even just fantasy (i imagine many of you have similar experiences), so maybe this deeper emotional connection is what fuels it all as well?

Whatever the case, I don't see this one-of-a-kind AK EVER leaving my collection. As soon as I picked it up from Ban this weekend, it instantly joined the small group of blades in my possession that I'll never let go of as long As I can help it 😁🔪😁🔪😁🔪🌋
Congrats, Ban makes everything better,,,:)

Thanks Bro! I'll tell you, I feel way better about letting that SHBA go to you now...heh. I was starting to really miss it and even regret selling it and not finding funds another way. Of course no e i am pretty sure I would have sold it as soon as Ban gave me a chance at the AK anyway!

Having said all that, how are you liking that SHBA? Did you end up deciding to use it or keep it safe? Please fondle that beautiful Badger a little bit for me whenever you have a chance [emoji38]

You nailed it though: Ban makes everything better
