Hey Bruce!
I appreciate that you always share your knowledge and experience with all who ask.
I appreciate that you spend all the time you do on tutorials.
I appreciate that you post pics of some of your knives with enough detail so we can see what is possible.
You just keep right on doing what you do- we appreciate it.

The shop Talk forum is a place for all of the newbie makers out there to get info and show off the results of hard work infront of a grinder/anvil. The posting of pics isn't to try and sell a knife, but rather to say "hey look, it worked!" If you wanted to sell a knife you made, posting it on the forum where KNIFE MAKERS hang out isn't very smart in the first place! That is what the exchange forums are for.

I said that this is where newbie makers hang out, and by that I mean that EVERYONE who makes blades are newbies. I can't make a fixed knife like Mike Cooper (L6STEEL) yet, but he can't make a folder like Tom Mayo can, and Tom can't drill a hoel as straight as I can! HA! Anyways, we're all learning, trying new things, etc. I think the most "self promotion" I have ever seen Bruce do is boldly direct people wo his website to check out the tutorials and see how to do all of the techniques that Bruce himself does! Just today I was grinding a knfie and I messed it up a bit. I figure a little bit of file work will help "fix" the problem, and I thought to myself that I have to check Bruce's site so I can learn how to do that neat vine filework.

When Bruce Jerry Hossom, Tom Mayo, or any other maker including myself really soon post a pic of a knife, it is to say thanks to those who have helped them, and to say "WOHOO! YIPPEE!! LOOK WHAT I MADE! AIN'T IT COOL! YEAHHHH!!!" When a maker posts a pic in the exchange forum, it is to sell it.

I wouldn't worry about it. I like to see your knives. What I can't understand is how do you get so many done. HEY I'LL post some pics if I ever finish a knife

OK Bruce,
If it makes you feel any better, I'll be the one that accepts your apology!

Now, lets get back to some knifemaking and stuff.

Got any pictures of your knives?
Wanna buy some!

Bruce- I, too, feel no apology was necessary. I love seeing your pic's. And as a newbie maker I really appreciate your tutorials and willingness to share your time and knowledge. Keep up the good work and keep posting those pictures!

A guy goes to a knife makers symposium for 3 days and look at all the s##t he misses.
Bruce you picture posts serve as a bench mark of things to shoot for. Some of them are so dam nice you pi## me off, but thats my problem. Maybe in a year or so I'll be able to return the favor.
Don't let yourself be baited by people that are out to make themselves look better by trying to make you look bad. The real knife lovers here know what drives all of us.
You have in the past so kindly posted all these fine pictures of such great knives that I know you will be seeing little bits of you influence showing up in the work of other makers.
Keep on posting and in the near future I hope to have a few to fire back at you.

Thanks everybody,I really apriceate all the kind words.
And Robert.I don't post the pictures to try and piss anybody off, sorry about that.
I guess that I need to post a picture of one of my first knives,so everybody will know that I started on the bottom myself.
Bruce

You know what I do when I see multiple posts? I look at one AND IGNORE THE REST!!!! Is that so hard for anyone to understand? In your case though Bruce, I gotta look at every one! Saves me from having to go back to wherever the first one was posted.

You save me surfing time!

And I really like your work so it doesn't offend me at all to see your knives in different areas of this forum. Don't appologize for sticking up for your buds man. Thats what friends are supposed to do! And anyway I think you scared that little puke off, so don't worry yourself none. You just keep makin' and keep postin!

Bruce, you are a true gentleman -- one who apologixes even when it is not necessary.

Contrast this with one who does not apologize when he should.

As one who wishes to remain counted among the wise, I have read the posts in question extensively before writing this, and have come to some conclusions that I'd like to share with everyone. I think that things here have gotten a little out of hand, some folks need to be directly addressed that have contributed to the fray, and then faded quietly into the background when somebody asked whose fault it was...

Justknives: while the post you made about Bruce posting on other forums was valid as a
question, had you analyzed the nature of Bruce's many posts, you would see that not
only is he a pretty nice guy, but has a genuine interest in bringing the joy of smithing to as many people as possible. I don't post alot, but I read as many as I can. You, being a newbie on the forum (like me) should not be expected to know the motivations of the veterans of the forum. However, the rest of your posts after that were somewhat inflamatory, and were quite
insulting to those you addressed. Some of them were designed to aggravate people even
more than they already were.

Bug3x: Granted the comment about Bruce using the forums as an advertising media was
somewhat discourteous, but to be fair, if the guy hasn't read that many posts, he could
see the abundant nature of Bruce's posts as advertising. Most of us who've taken the
time to read what Bruce types know that he's just rightfully proud of his work, and wants
everybody to gain something from his talent.
Your reply was designed to diminish Justknives. Granted the question was somewhat
insulting, but that was due to the blunt nature of the statement. Your reply was insulting and anger-ridden when a simple "You'll know it's not true if you just hang around and listen to the things that Bruce has to say" would have sufficed. I realize that it's hard to see a friend insulted, but a little bit of charity goes along was in the ways of communication

Bruce: I can see how you may have seen yourself as the source of this, because it was your post, but you handled it gracefully, and ALL of us know that you are rather blameless in the situation.

Now let's all just get along. The longer we drag this out, the less time we get to spend looking at really cool knives, and talking about them.

Thanks for all the kind words everybody...
You know I was just thinking (hard to do sometimes) But if JK was worried that I was trying to advertise my knives to much,What does he think he just did for me this weekend.I believe that I have gotten more attention and kind words in th last 3 days than in the last month or so combined,so THANKS JK...I needed that

R.W.Clark, I said I as in advertising, not sales. Again it seems people only read what they want to hear no matter what is said.

folderVSfixed, whenyou post something worth reading I would be happy to read it again but.....

Bruce, you are quite welcome

Isn't it amazing what a simple question can conjure up? Keep posting pics as I like them too.

This has been a test of the emergency overreacting association. We now return you to knives and pics
