Public service announcement ~~ new fakes to watch out for ~~

Heads up!
Even though it's just been released, and no Plain edged version exists, there's a fake of the Jumpmaster 2 in the evil bay.
I was looking for vendors who already had the Jumpmaster 2 with its glorious serrations in stock, and I found the fake one in a new listing.
Just beware!

So they edit the locks out of the picture? Why? It looks like they might be getting better at immitating the jimping too. They have that steplike quality that the fakes never used to have. Atleast as I can best tell from those blurry photos. The K2 looks like it has no jimping.

K2 has no jimping anywhere on the original. But a dead giveaway, based on the photo above, is that the real K2 has a visible belt-grind texture on the blade. That counterfeit looks to have stonewash finish - no belt-grind.

Half those knives are also missing the Spyderco logo.

Hopefully the OP, who is on as we speak, has gotten back, or will get back, to tazkristi.

if people even say they make good quality (WHICH THE TRUTH IS THEY DONT, those are SHILLS), then why dont they make their own designs instead of copying another brand at wayyyyy lesser quality? oh yea, its so they can sell them off the backs of someone elses hard work for their own profits. and most people dont know the differences between them or even know that they are clones.

why wouldnt you post links? not being smart ass. i feel im missing something, wouldnt you want to let us all know?

Because there may be people who will actually buy them, thus further supporting this contraband.
Hard to believe for some...

Yesterday I saw a copy of the dog tag folder on amazon. There were a few reviews calling it out as a fake spyderco.
After reading this thread I just checked and it was gone. Maybe amazon is cracking down.

they should and need to badly, but i doubt it. i'll bet some knife collector or spyderco fan or a direct competitor on amazon selling real spydercos saw it and reported it until it was gone.

I think the factory owners would know that would be a great way to lose a lucrative US contract. I could be wrong but I think the risk would be too high ....

It is possible that the factory owners don't know that unauthorized production is occurring. Such "ghost shift" production has been seen in the electronics industry; I'd be very surprised if the knife manufacturers were immune to such problems.

When buying new I only buy from trusted Authorized dealers.

As do I -- but we're fooling ourselves if we think this provides 100% protection against counterfeit product.

Dealers accept returns -- and when they do, they risk contaminating their stock. When counterfeits were easily distinguished from genuine product, this risk was low -- but times have changed. When counterfeit product is visibly indistinguishable from genuine product, how can a dealer be certain a returned item is the genuine item they shipped to the customer, and not a counterfeit?

I believe this is happening a lot more these days thru Amazon and Walmart. People buy the genuine model and then return it with a fake...getting $$ back and contaminating the market or retailer.

I agree with this, though there is of course no empirical evidence to support such a statement. It just makes sense to me that the likely target of fraudulent activity is going to be the lowest hanging fruit, namely places like Amazon and Walmart. Big places like those that may do a high volume with employees that do not closely examine returns or would not know what to even look for (or know that clones even exist) are IMO much more attractive than a purveyor who is much more in touch with Spyderco and the industry as a whole.

Totally agree...got to believe most of the people looking at those returns don't know the diff between authentic and clones. They are getting more difficult to spot even for us knife addicts.

Unless the thieves realize that because they have so contaminated the stock at major retailers, they themselves may receive counterfeit product!

instead of passing new knife laws, they should outlaw and band these copy's/clones from entering the USA.

fakes are outlawed already. Unfortunately it is not sufficiently enforced. I reported few times fakes to e-bay. No actions were taken. It is too bad that Spyderco do not have resources to sue hell out of e-bay and other US merchants, who sells fakes.
